Chatham Maritime Trust is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Management Accountant to join our team. This role is central to maintaining the financial integrity of the Trust, particularly as we take on the management of a new site. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing accurate financial reports, leading month-end processes, and acting as a key contact for the new site integration programme.
Key Responsibilities
Month-End Duties
Prepare and post month-end journals.
Perform full month-end close procedures in line with internal deadlines and reporting requirements.
Reconcile all balance sheet accounts and ensure accuracy of ledger entries, and tick back to the Trial Balance.
Reconcile key accounts including bank, fixed assets, debtors, creditors, accruals, prepayments, deferred income, and accrued income.
Review cost centres and produce monthly management accounts with detailed commentary on financial performance.
Review budget templates and compare actual spend against budgeted figures.
Identify cost savings and provide detailed commentary and analysis to the board.
Liaise with internal departments to gather financial data and ensure completeness.
Review aged debtor and creditor reports, follow up on outstanding balances, and ensure appropriate provisions are made.
Identify and post necessary accruals and prepayments to ensure accurate period-end reporting.
Ensure correct treatment of income, including reconciliation of, donations, and service income, and appropriate recognition of accrued and deferred income.
Maintain clear audit trails and documentation for all adjustments.
Support the Finance Manager in preparing board reports and financial summaries.
New Site Integration
Act as the lead finance contact for the onboarding and management of the new site.
Collaborate with operational teams to understand financial requirements and ensure alignment.
Develop financial models and reporting structures tailored to the new site.
Ensure systems and processes are adapted to accommodate the new site's operations.
Provide training and support to staff involved in the programme.
Monitor financial performance and report on key metrics related to the new site.
Cross-Departmental Support
Work collaboratively across departments to support financial understanding and decision-making.
Provide financial guidance and assistance to non-finance colleagues as needed.
Contribute to a positive and cooperative office environment by being a reliable and approachable team player.

High attention to detail and accuracy in reporting and reconciliations.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work across departments and with external stakeholders.
Confidence in presenting financial insights and recommendations in meetings, including board and departmental discussions.
Ability to communicate financial matters clearly and professionally to external stakeholders such as auditors, funders, and suppliers.
Initiative and leadership, especially in managing new projects and system changes.
Proficiency in Excel and experience with accounting systems such as Sage.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
A collaborative approach and a positive attitude within the office environment.
Flexibility and adaptability to respond to evolving financial and operational needs.
Qualifications and Experience
Minimum of 5 years' experience in a finance role.
Experience in the charity or property management sector is desirable.
