Bernard Matthews Foods Derby is a food production company based in Derby, we are part of Boparan Holdings, a group that contains multiple food brands and restaurants. At our Derby site, we specialise in poultry products with 2 key production areas; 'RTE - ready to eat', and 'RTC - ready to cook' - supplying to a range of customers including: Tesco, Aldi, Co-op, and ASDA.
As a Management Accountant, you will prepare, develop, and analyse key financial information to support decision-making and ensure the organisation's stability, profitability, and growth.
You will play a pivotal role in preparing accurate and timely Profit & Loss accounts (P&L
)
, establishing robust financial policies, and providing insights into business performance. Acting as a trusted advisor to management, you will communicate financial information clearly and effectively to both financial and non-financial colleagues.
The role combines technical accounting expertise with strong business acumen, with a focus on reducing costs, improving efficiency, and driving value across the organisation.
The Role & Responsibilities of the Management Accountant
Preparation and analysis of the weekly & monthly Profit & Loss accounts (P&L)
Posting journals and maintaining accurate ledgers
Bank reconciliations and nominal ledger analysis
VAT returns and compliance reporting
Cash flow management and forecasting
Budget preparation and forecasting
Month-end and year-end financial close processes
Financial reporting, including variance and performance analysis
Product costing and margin analysis
Financial modelling to support strategic decisions
Providing day-to-day support to the Financial Controller
Using the organisation's finance software (Navision)
What you need:
Proven experience within an Accounting role
Strong track record in preparing and analysing P&L accounts
Ideally, you'll have your accountancy qualifications or you'll be almost qualified (CIMA, ACA, ACCA)
Solid grounding in weekly and monthly accounting processes, with the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
Excellent communication skills with the confidence to challenge and influence stakeholders
Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, modelling)
Ideally, experience in financial modelling
