Location: Penrith Office



Working Pattern:

up to 24 hours per week (can be worked across 3 full days or spread over 4-5 days to accommodate childcare, caring responsibilities or other requirements)


Reports to: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)


About the Role




We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Part-Time Management Accountant to join our finance team based in our Penrith office. This role is ideal for a qualified or part-qualified accountant looking for flexibility and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a dynamic environment.

Map of Ag is an innovative agricultural data business, working with food processors, brands, banks and retailers across food industry to help them measure, manage and improve aspects of the environment, animal welfare, and economic sustainability of the farms they work with.


To help deliver for our growing client base, we're looking to recruit a Management Accountant. This is a key role that will oversee and support Map of Ag's transition to profitability following its 'Venture Phase'.


Key Responsibilities




Oversight of the daily financial operations of all companies within the group. Map of Ag Group includes a holding company and five subsidiaries. The role involves overseeing the financial and management accounting of these subsidiaries. Management accounting responsibilities include checking revenue recognition, adjusting accrued/deferred income, and accounting for accruals/prepayments. Transactional processing is completed by two accounts assistants - one in Penrith and one in New Zealand.

Prepare consolidated monthly management accounts, ensuring accuracy and timeliness, using Fathom and Xero. Providing insightful financial commentary to support business decision-making.

Provide data insights and analysis including gross profit margin, profitability by product, monitoring of the various business units, as well as cost projections and understanding of fixed and variable costs

Management of budget process including providing initial draft to budget owners, consolidating and importing into Xero.

Responsibility for the prompt preparation of the statutory year-end accounts in line with UK accounting standards.

Prepare and maintain financial data for KPI dashboards, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.

Support the CFO with financial analysis, forecasting, and ad hoc reporting.

About You




ACA, ACCA, CIMA, AAT qualified or part-qualified or equivalent experience.

Proven experience in management accounting, ideally within a group.

An interest in technical accounting.

The ability to present insights from the financial data collected rather than simply reporting the numbers. The ability to tell the story they present.

Proficient in using Xero accounting software.

Experience with Fathom is a real plus.

Strong Excel skills and familiarity with financial reporting tools.

Excellent analytical and communication skills.

Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

A change management attitude - as a fast moving SaaS business you need to be receptive to change and will to challenge the status quo when required.

Willing to be a partner to the CFO and accounts team.
