Management Accountant - Job Specification



Overview


We are seeking an experienced, commercially focused Management Accountant to support the Finance Controller. This is a hands-on position, ideal for someone with a proven track record in management accounts, month-end, and business partnering, who can hit the ground running and drive process improvements.

You will play a key role in producing accurate, timely management information, supporting budgeting and forecasting, and acting as a finance business partner to operational teams. This is an opportunity to add real value, with scope to influence processes and reporting.

Key Responsibilities



Financial Reporting & Month-End



Lead the preparation of monthly management accounts, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. Prepare and post complex journals (accruals, prepayments, depreciation, etc.). Take responsibility for balance sheet reconciliations and ensure control account integrity. Maintain and update the fixed asset register and depreciation schedules. Deliver clear variance analysis and commentary for management review. Oversee VAT reconciliations and returns. Assist in group consolidation and intercompany reconciliations.

Forecasting & Budgeting



Support the Finance Controller in the annual budgeting and quarterly reforecast processes. Develop and maintain robust schedules to track actuals vs budget across operational areas. Provide insightful analysis to highlight risks, opportunities, and drivers of performance.

Business Partnering & Analysis



Engage with operational managers to provide financial support, analysis, and challenge. Investigate and explain variances and transactional anomalies. Deliver meaningful cost centre reports and basic KPI dashboards. Support the Finance Controller in business and commercial review meetings.

Compliance, Audit & Controls



Prepare year-end audit schedules and statutory support files. Ensure reconciliations and documentation are complete and audit-ready. Identify and drive improvements to processes, controls, and reporting routines.

Process & Systems Improvement



Proactively identify and implement improvements to month-end and reporting processes. Help document best practice processes and controls. Develop and enhance reporting, including use of Power BI and system data integrity.

Requirements



Qualifications & Experience



Qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) with at least 2-3 years' post-qualification experience in a management accounting role. Strong technical understanding of accounting, financial controls, and reporting processes. Hands-on experience producing management accounts, variance analysis, and business partnering. Advanced Excel user; experience with finance systems such as Sage, Access, or Xero is desirable.

Pay: 40,000.00-50,000.00 per year
