North Somerset Environment Company Ltd. (NSEC) works in partnership with North Somerset Council and delivers the following services:
Collecting recycling and waste from over 100,000 homes and commercial businesses across North Somerset and the wider area
Managing Household Waste Recycling Centres at Backwell, Portishead and Weston along with two Waste Transfer Stations in Weston.
Maintaining 1,100km of North Somerset highways including surface repairs, winter maintenance, gully management, drainage and kerbing repairs, signage and linemarking, and 24/7 emergency response services.
HGV Driver and mobile plant training, vehicle servicing and maintenance, event cleaning and other environmental and highway maintenance specialisms to commercial businesses

We are currently seeking an experienced Management Accountant to be part of the company's leadership team, reporting directly to the Head of Finance. You will be responsible for preparing and delivering accurate monthly management accounts, supporting the finance team with some line management responsibility, partner with key stakeholders across departments to provide financial insights and help maintain operational efficiency and support business growth.
What you'll be doing:
Prepare and deliver monthly management accounts, financial statements, variance analysis, and KPI reporting. Support budgeting, forecasting, and year-end processes.
Ensure legal and financial compliance, conduct audits, VAT submissions, and manage balance sheet reconciliations, fixed assets, and cashflow.
Drive finance process improvements, support ISO accreditation, and contribute to business continuity and continuous improvement initiatives.
Oversee payroll, support team training, development, and performance, including regular 1:1s and mentoring. Deputise for senior finance roles as required.
Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, respond to senior leadership reporting needs, and carry out additional tasks as necessary.
The ideal candidate will have:
Professional qualifications from a recognised accountancy body such as CIMA, ACCA or AAT or significant finance experience.
Experienced user of accounting software (specifically Xero) and advanced knowledge of excel and spreadsheet manipulation.
Proven ability to manage a team and collaborate across departments.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a dynamic environment.
Ability to use initiative and work unsupervised.
