Job Title: Management Accountant/Financial Controller Location: Padiham (initially), then Accrington Stanley Football Club (Sky Bet League Two)
Accrington Stanley, 'The Club that wouldn't die', is seeking a hands-on, qualified Management Accountant / Financial Controller to oversee and lead the club's finance function.
About the Role:
This is a rare opportunity to join a close-knit, community-driven club with a proud history and exciting future. You'll play a crucial role in supporting the club's financial health, compliance, and long-term sustainability. You will report directly to the Group FD and work closely with the club's CEO.
Key Responsibilities:
Full responsibility for day-to-day financial operations of the club.
Payroll administration
for staff and players
Preparation and submission of VAT returns
Monthly management accounts
including commentary and analysis.
Annual budgeting
and
cashflow forecasting/analysis
Ensuring
compliance with EFL regulations
including submissions and reporting.
Supervision and support
of an existing bookkeeper.
Matchday ticketing operations
(including oversight of systems and reconciliations).
Liaising with club directors, auditors, and external bodies.
About You:
Fully qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA or CIMA)
Demonstrated experience in a similar financial controller or senior accounting role. Prior experience in both practice and industry preferable.
Highly organised, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple responsibilities.
Confident using accounting software and Excel (Sage experience desirable).
Willingness to roll up sleeves - from high-level reporting to hands-on bookkeeping.
Must be available to work on home fixtures as matchday presence is required.
