Overview
The Venue Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operation, profitability, and reputation of The Woolpack. This role requires strong leadership, excellent communication, and a hands-on approach to ensure smooth service, compliance with licensing and health & safety regulations, and a consistently high standard of customer experience. Also a live in opportunity for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management
Oversee daily running of the bar, floor, and kitchen operations.
Ensure opening/closing procedures are followed correctly.
Manage stock control: ordering, deliveries, cellar management, waste reduction.
Maintain venue cleanliness and presentation to high standards.
Staff Leadership & HR
Recruit, train, and supervise staff across all departments.
Prepare staff rotas, ensuring appropriate cover for busy periods.
Motivate and support staff, maintaining high morale and professional standards.
Conduct performance reviews and implement disciplinary procedures where necessary.
Financial & Business Performance
Monitor sales, costs, and profitability, reporting to ownership.
Control labour and overhead costs effectively.
Drive sales through events, promotions, and upselling.
Manage cash handling, banking, and till reconciliations.
Customer Experience
Ensure excellent levels of service and hospitality at all times.
Handle customer feedback and complaints promptly and professionally.
Develop loyalty through consistent delivery of quality food, drink, and atmosphere.
Compliance & Safety
Ensure all licensing conditions are adhered to (Challenge 25, incident logs, CCTV checks).
Maintain health & safety and food hygiene standards, including staff training.
Conduct regular risk assessments (fire, cellar, kitchen, etc.).
Marketing & Events
Work with the owner to create and promote events that drive footfall.
Engage with local community, suppliers, and partners to raise venue profile.
Maintain social media presence in line with brand identity.
Skills & Attributes
Proven leadership experience in hospitality (bar/pub/restaurant management).
Strong organisational and multitasking skills.
Knowledge of licensing law, health & safety, and food hygiene regulations.
Excellent communication and people-management skills.
Commercial awareness and ability to meet financial targets.
A passion for hospitality, with a hands-on, can-do approach.
