Shilstone House is a country estate in South Devon. Located in the courtyard, our Cafe offers a seasonal menu led by what's available from the gardens and local growers.

The Role

We're looking for an enthusiastic

Cafe Manager

to bring charm, confidence, and great leadership to our cafe. You'll be the face of our cafe, championing our signature style of hospitality: warm, professional, and effortlessly welcoming. From leading your team through daily service to handling guest feedback, you'll make sure every visit feels smooth, relaxed, and memorable.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Management - Support our front-of-house team to deliver polished, friendly service every shift. This includes recruiting, training, and developing team members, creating weekly rotas, running daily briefings, and giving regular feedback. Day to Day Operations - From opening and closing the cafe to managing stock, tills, and POS systems. Menu and Product Knowledge - Working with the kitchen team to fully understand the menu - ingredients, allergens, and preparation - and help with new menu launches. Ensure the front of house team are knowledgeable with the menu. Compliance and Safety - Uphold high standards of food hygiene and health & safety, keeping records up to date and ensuring the team follows safe, guest-facing practices at all times. Reporting / Financial Awareness - Complete weekly financial reports with support of the accounts team, work with kitchen team to reduce waste, stock ordering and invoice checks.

Skills & Experience:

Previous experience in a supervisory or team leader role, preferably in a cafe or food service setting Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and lead by example Knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards Flexible availability, including weekends and holidays

Additional Information:

Your own transport is essential as we are not on any public transport routes

Pay & Benefits:

30-40 hours per week - Wednesday - Sunday Up to 16 per hour (dependant on age and experience) with tips 50% off in the Cafe and Restaurant for you and a guest Delicious staff meals on shift for those working during food service Refer a Friend scheme, if they join the team, you'll get a thank-you bonus Team members in certain roles will get the chance to visit our local suppliers, to learn more about the produce we use Team socials every couple of months A share of the service charge is distributed across relevant teams Regular training is provided to develop skills and experience.
