What you'll be doing
A Managing Quantity Surveyor is an experienced QS who has a track record in managing all costs relating to building and civil engineering projects, from the initial calculations to the final figures. They seek to minimise the costs of a project and enhance value for money, while still achieving the required standards and quality. Typically, they will be a Chartered Member of the RICS, ICES or CIOB. They will have experience of managing a small team of less experienced commercial staff as well as mentoring others on their journey to becoming professionally qualified.
Has a good knowledge of and adheres to the Company's GMCEs, BMS and other governance. Including SZC systems, processes, and governance
Orders information and systematically checks data
Maximises digital opportunities
Prepares Activity Schedules, Resource Schedules & analyses tender documents
Critically appraises, estimates, and negotiates the above with 3rd parties
Planning
Reviews complex contract programmes such as Time-Location,
Assists with the preparation of delay and disruption programmes
Project Management
Monitors subcontract activities, measure and respond appropriately
Analyses the commercial progress and report to senior project staff
Manages commercial aspects with Customer and Stakeholders for their area of responsibility
Procurement
Undertakes constructability analyses using construction programmes
Prepares procurement programme and helps develop the strategy
Commercial Management
Analyses rates & prices, agreement of variations and or compensation events as required
Undertakes customer and stakeholder management for their area of responsibility
Prepares, submits and negotiates claims when required
Prepares Internal reports, commercial progress and financial reconciliation

Manage the preparation of the monthly operating statement and associated commercial reports
To be able to report and explain the commercial progress to senior teams
To manage the feedback of commercial data to Planning, Estimating, Marketing and Sales
Formulation of management plans for resource procurement
Understanding of disputes resolution including options, structure as well as knowledge of the SCL Protocol
chain management and procurement techniques, estimating and surveying functions
Management and reporting of Commercial Risk and Opportunity
Management of disallowed cost
Experienced in the recruitment and development of talent within the business
Ability to provide feedback on team members strengths and weaknesses and support performance management
Determining project commercial staff requirements
Able to make connection between creative ideas and innovative outcomes and implement using a wide range of improvement techniques
Managing risks and opportunities at a Project level and updating senior teams
Can see the big picture and can spot the point at which to make a trade off
Is aware of political issues, and seeks win-win situations, whilst maintaining effective relationships
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or experience equivalent
Membership of RICS, ICES or CIOB (or working towards)
42 hours per week
