Managing Quantity Surveyor - Environment

An opportunity has arisen for a Managing Quantity Surveyor to join the team at Galliford Try.


You will work on our Welsh Water Framework within our Environment Business, who are experienced in successfully delivering schemes of varying sizes, predominately to the Water Industry, across both Treatment Waste and Water schemes.


What you will be doing:



Ideally, you will be based in or around the Warrington area and will have the opportunity to travel across multiple sites/projects in the Region.


Day-to-day, you'll be working closely with the Commercial and Operational leads in the commercial management of the projects. We're looking for somebody who is highly proactive, dynamic and able to drive the commercial performance of the Operating Unit forward, ensuring the budgeted financial goals are achieved as set out by the business and ensuring robust risk management principles are instilled.


Part of your role will be to develop the commercial team, you'll have the ability to lead and empower teams, at varying levels, including the management of any development and retention challenges. You will play a pivotal part in fostering a continuous improvement and teamwork culture by actively seeking input from all members of the team. Inspiring, motivating and leading to maintain and maximise quality of service and profitability.


It will be your responsibility to pay keen attention to detail in cost control, contract/change management and an unwavering focus on maintaining a cash positive position. You will review and monitor costs on a continuing basis, manage change in a timely manner in accordance with the form of contract, including the production and submission of Compensation Event Quotations, produce, submit, and agree monthly applications, to the Client, in accordance with the form of contract and take responsibility for achieving business targets including cash, profit, return on capital and sales.


You'll be working closely with the Commercial Team and Project leads to ensure the correct project controls are in place across all disciplines and reporting regularly to the Commercial Manager, preparing monthly commercial reports for the board within set deadlines (CVR's, Secured/Unsecured Forecast, Cash/WIP) and highlighting any issues/risks.


Your role forms an essential link in the supply chain, involving effective liaison, engagement, and communication between key stakeholders. Developing and managing customer/stakeholder relationships for repeat business opportunities/tenders, maintaining a positive working relationship with the senior leadership team, peers and teams to debate, develop and implement initiatives and change management protocols and collaborating with central service teams for core processes, people management and development. You'll show flexibility, resilience, and the ability to influence and build relationships. Demonstrating strong ethical standards with openness and honesty.

About You:



Alongside your commercial acumen and strong stakeholder management and communication capabilities, you'll hold a professional qualification such as MCIOB or MRICS.


You'll have experience in a Construction/Engineering Environment (Highways/Rail/Water/Aviation), having been exposed to large single or multiple smaller schemes, with solid knowledge of the construction process.


In this role, a high level of commercial awareness and technical knowledge is key, you'll be fully versed in standard forms of contract with experience of estimating from first principals.


We're seeking an excellent team player with the confidence to communicate and influence at all levels and establish strong, collaborative working relationships. You will thrive when working with stakeholders across all levels, coupled with your ability to truly understand our business from a commercial standpoint, demonstrating strong working knowledge of standard forms of contract, in particular the NEC3/4 suite of Contracts.


We're seeking somebody with strong IT skills including Excel, Word & Contractual and Cost Management Systems (CEMAR, Oracle).


Working on site, we'd like you to have CSCS, as appropriate. However, we will support you in covering any training needs.
