The Role
We're seeking an experienced
Manufacturing Automation Engineer
to lead the integration of automation and robotics across our cylinder manufacturing processes. You will be instrumental in introducing systems to streamline operations such as
sheet rolling, coiling, TIG/MIG welding, and material handling
. This role will suit a hands-on engineer with strong technical know-how and a drive to bring new ideas into practice.
Key Responsibilities
Identify and deliver automation opportunities in stainless steel cylinder production
Design, program, and install automation solutions (robotic arms, PLCs, CNC integration, welding automation)
Commission and maintain automated systems for rolling, coiling, and welding processes
Develop automated TIG/MIG welding solutions for duplex stainless steel applications
Work closely with production, maintenance, and design teams to ensure seamless system integration
Optimise processes for cycle time, consistency, quality, and safety
Train and support shop floor staff in operation and troubleshooting of automated equipment
Research, trial, and introduce new automation technologies to keep the company at the forefront of manufacturing
Candidate Requirements
Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical, Electrical, Robotics, or Automation Engineering (or equivalent experience)
Proven track record in automation integration within manufacturing environments
Strong knowledge of
robotics (ABB, KUKA, FANUC, or similar)
and PLC systems
Hands-on experience with
TIG/MIG welding automation
and
stainless steel fabrication
(ideally duplex or similar high-grade materials)
Understanding of sheet metal forming, rolling, and coiling processes
Excellent project management and problem-solving skills
Ability to take ownership of projects and work collaboratively across departments
