Main Purpose of the Job
As a Buyer you will be responsible for the procurement of raw materials, components, and supplies required for manufacturing operations. This role ensures that materials are purchased at the best possible price, quality, and delivery schedule to support continuous production. You will be required to collaborates with suppliers, warehouse, production and engineering to ensure the timely and cost-effective flow of materials.
Key Responsibilities
Purchase materials, components, equipment and services in accordance with business needs.
Work closely with production, planning, and engineering teams to understand material requirements.
Evaluate supplier quotes and negotiate pricing, delivery terms, and contracts.
Monitor supplier performance to ensure compliance with quality, delivery, and cost expectations.
Maintain optimal inventory levels to avoid stockouts or overstocking.
Place and track purchase orders and expedite deliveries as needed.
Resolve issues related to defective materials, late deliveries, or invoice discrepancies.
Identify and qualify new suppliers to improve cost, quality, or delivery performance.
Maintain accurate procurement records and update ERP/MRP systems.
Assist in cost reduction initiatives and support lean manufacturing goals.
Qualifications
2-5 years of purchasing or buying experience within a manufacturing environment preferred.
Proven Skills
Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP Business One would be beneficial).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, etc.).
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to multitask and prioritise in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge of Lean/Continuous improvement would be beneficial.
