Manufacturing Engineer - Gears
Location: Wolverhampton, full-time onsite
Shifts: Standard days OR Double Days (06:15-14:00 & 13:15-21:00)
Rate: PAYE: from 30/hr up to 35/hr + holiday pay | Umbrella: from 40.91 up to 47.72/hr | Double day shift rate PAYE: from 34.35 up to 40.07
Type: 12month contract with potential extension

Morson is currnently recruiting an experienced Manufacturing Engineer with strong gear machining and 5-axis CNC expertise, to join our aerospace manufacuring client at their Wolverhampton facility. Join a growing team working on the introduction and optimisation of a new dedicated gear cell at a world-leading aerospace manufacturer.
We're looking for a hands-on engineer who can support and improve complex machining processes, drive optimisation, and provide technical expertise across gears manufacturing.
The Opportunity
You'll become a key member of a 10-person manufacturing engineering team, supporting the setup, development and continuous improvement of a new specialist gear cell. This is an exciting time to join, with major investment in new equipment, technology and processes.
Your focus will be on:
? Introducing & supporting a new gear machining cell
? 5-axis mill/turn programming & optimisation (Okuma OSP / Fanuc)
? Technical support to production, inspection & problem-solving
? Improving tooling, process capability, quality, cost & efficiency
? Supporting metrology and gear inspection activities
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being on the shop floor, collaborating with machinists, solving problems, and driving real performance improvements.
Key Responsibilities
Improve manufacturing processes using lean tools to enhance safety, quality, cost and delivery.
Create, update and optimise CNC programs for 5-axis mill/turn machining of gears.
Provide hands-on technical support to operations and inspection teams.
Lead problem-solving activities using structured methodologies.
Support tooling design, procurement and validation.
Conduct PFMEA, process audits, and risk assessments.
Support first article inspection and customer visits when required.
Contribute to continuous improvement, waste reduction and process robustness.
What You'll Bring
Essential Skills & Experience
Proven experience in 5-axis machining.
Strong gear manufacturing knowledge.
Mill/turn CNC programming experience - ideally Okuma OSP and/or Fanuc.
Tooling knowledge relevant to gear machining.
Experience in metrology, CMM or gear inspection.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
Strong problem-solving mindset with a drive for continuous improvement.
Desirable
Experience in aerospace, automotive, defence or precision engineering.
Exposure to lean methodologies, Kaizen, or process optimisation.
Experience working within a highly regulated industry.
Qualifications
HNC or above in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent).
