We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and detail-oriented
Manufacturing Production Engineer
to join our team. Based in Colchester, this role is responsible for managing and improving production processes, ensuring manufacturing efficiency, and supporting the delivery of high-quality products on time and in budget. You will work closely with operations, quality, maintenance, and design teams to drive continuous improvement and support day-to-day production activities.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Managing existing manufacturers and the relationship with them to strengthen relationships and partnership to support the business strategy.
Identify new potential manufacturers, working with the commercial, quality, and compliance teams to assess suitability to onboard as a new manufacturer.
Develop, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, quality, and safety.
Manage and track risks via RAG (or equivalent) system, mitigating and managing as appropriate, and escalating where necessary.
Troubleshoot production issues and implement root cause corrective actions (RCCA).
Collaborate with design and R&D teams to support new product introductions (NPI) into manufacturing.
Create and maintain process documentation, including work instructions, SOPs, and process flow diagrams.
Analyze production data and metrics to identify trends and areas for improvement.
Lead or support lean manufacturing initiatives (5S, Kaizen, Six Sigma, Lean).
Specify and coordinate the installation of new equipment or tooling.
Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.
Provide monthly reporting to R&D Director, to include KPI's, metrics, insights and RAG.
Qualifications Include:
Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
2+ years of experience in a manufacturing or production engineering role.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Experience with process improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, etc.).
Proficiency with AutoCAD Inventor or Fusion 360 software and Microsoft Office tools.
Excellent communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
Knowledge of manufacturing equipment and common industrial processes (e.g., machining, assembly, molding)
Background in Asia manufacturing (China, Vietnam...) for plastic moulded & electronic PCB manufactured products.
Ability to speak multi languages, e.g. Chinese, Mandarin, etc. a plus.
Able to act proactively with confidence and with limited direct supervision, while at the same time recognising when matters need to be referred to a senior manager.
Able to identify and highlight potential obstacles in achieving objectives and propose solutions where appropriate while also considering future innovation of products.
Able to prioritise work to ensure high standards of delivery across all aspects of work.
