Job Description

We are seeking a manufacturing technician in the area of industrial metrology, inspection and quality who can support project delivery as part of AMIC's advanced manufacturing activities. The successful candidate will assist with workshop-based research and development activities and apply knowledge and experience to ensure outputs which will have a direct economic and technical benefit to AMIC and our partner companies. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the Industrial Metrology team, wider AMIC team and industry partners to help deliver key projects focused on advanced manufacturing.

About the person:
1. OND/ONC and/or NVQ level 3 or above (or equivalent standard) in a relevant engineering discipline and/or a recognised, apprenticeship completed in an engineering environment; OR Lower qualifications with significant and relevant industrial experience.
2. Experience in 3D metrology, inspection or quality control in a manufacturing environment which should include:

  • Technical knowledge and application of fundamental metrology principles.
  • Proficiency in GD & T, interpretation of engineering drawings and definition of inspection plans.
  • Demonstrable experience in measurement of a range of manufactured products.
  • Breadth of experience across a range of advanced inspection equipment and software for 3D measurement,including programming and debugging of automated routines; e. Compilation of reports from inspection data.
OR
3. Experience of a range of at least 2 of the following:
  • Non-Destructive test methods.
  • Inspection and evaluation of defects in components or welds.
  • Metallurgical analysis.
  • Surface metrology.
  • Mechanical testing.
4. Instruments management and care (cleaning and first level maintenance, verification, documentation) ensuringthat instruments are kept in operational condition.
5. Strong IT skills (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel).
6. Demonstrable logical and analytical skills with a proven track record in solving engineering related problems.
7. Ability to prioritise own work to meet deadlines.
8. Ability to form good working relationships with students, staff and external collaborators.
9. Good communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to work well in a team and on own initiative.
10. Strong interest in new technologies and willingness to learn new skills and techniques.

This is a 3 year fixed term post. Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.
