Coastal Marine Engineering Ltd is seeking a dedicated and resourceful
Marine Engineer
to support the maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical systems across a variety of vessels. This position plays a vital role in ensuring vessel reliability, safety, and performance, particularly in operational and customer-facing environments. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in marine systems, a hands-on approach to diagnostics and repairs, and the ability to work independently on-site.
Responsibilities
Diagnose and repair faults in marine propulsion systems (inboard and outboard)
Troubleshoot and resolve electrical system issues, including battery systems, lighting, and instrumentation
Perform preventative maintenance and full system inspections
Conduct sea trials and functional testing following repair or installation work
Maintain accurate records of diagnostics, repairs, and parts used
Liaise directly with clients and marinas to coordinate site visits and repairs
Ensure all work complies with safety standards and industry regulations
Support continuous improvement by identifying recurring issues or system inefficiencies
Skills & Experience
Strong practical knowledge of marine engines, drivetrains, and onboard electrical systems
Proven ability to independently diagnose and resolve complex technical faults
Familiarity with multimeters, diagnostic tools, and basic marine software
Comfortable working in varied marine environments, including docks and on the water
Full UK driving licence; confident traveling to client sites
Clear, professional communication skills--both written and verbal
A formal qualification in marine engineering or mechanical/electrical systems is beneficial but not essential
Employment Structure
This role begins with a
6-month fixed-term trial period
, during which performance, reliability, and technical ability will be evaluated. Upon successful completion, the position may transition into a full-time permanent role.
