Market Applications Engineer



LOCATION



Travel required to all G&H sites and to customer locations (up to 25% of the time)

ROLE



1. To provide technical and pre-sales support for customer accounts; to work alongside sales & business development managers and act as their technical consultant to the customer.

2. To be responsible for both commercial and technical aspects of the product portfolio in order to provide support to the sales & accounts teams, as well as manufacturing and engineering as required in order to win and grow company sales.

3. Build relationships and liaise with key technology decision matters in key accounts to support architectural design & to ensure G&H participation & compliance for future technology projects

4. RFQ-to-Order support up to and including standard quotation(s) to proposal completion; RFQ evaluation; costing; engineering consultation; quote and proposal.

QUALIFICATIONS



Engineering (Optics/Electronics/ Mechanical/Software), Physics, Materials Science, Mathematics or Business Degree (or equivalent) would be preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES



Technical Customer Liaison and Sales Enablement



Provide technical and pre-sales support for accounts; to work alongside sales & business development managers and act as their technical consultant to the customer

Understand business requirements for customers & translate these into technical requirements, specifications and sales responses

Be a primary contact for customer technical input, presentations, RFQ responses and feedback; liaise with key customer technical staff and decision makers to facilitate Template Reference Information Title: Employee : Market Application Engineer (BU) Revision: 2 Owner: DBS requirements generation. Be the contact point into G&H for technical/application/system architecture matters in the account

Drive identified opportunities ( technical consulting, product requirements, design validation, configuration, design and RFQ response generation)

Work with product management to identify pricing and margin models for customer RFQs, bid and new products

Assist with development of formal sales plans and proposals for assigned opportunities

Own technical liaison & process for customer post-sales support items & issues

Liaise with product and program management to identify lead times to build

Provide unit forecasting data for customer orders or forecasts to product management & manufacturing

Develop & agree customer specifications for product request

Perform in-depth and high-level technical presentations and technology demonstrations for customers

Understand and Articulate Architectures and Services to customers, partners and the internal sales & marketing teams

Keep up-to-date on relevant competitive solutions, products and services and provide competitive information back into the business

Provide information on win/loss analysis for customer bids

Provide input to Product Management & R&D groups for new products and services

SKILLS AND ABILITIES



Technical:



Although not essential, preferred to have knowledge of the following areas: linear crystal optics, classical optics, glass material properties, as well as experience in the manufacture of optical components such as lenses, windows, prisms and birefringent elements

Experience in technical design, project management and relationship management is essential.

Commercial:



Understanding of business decisions and experience of costing mechanisms

Experience required in negotiating commercial position with customer, preferably with knowledge of large account management

Knowledge of the RFQ process, and ability to respond to customer RFQ & RFI requests; provide technical sales support for bids

Experience of product development life cycles

Overall awareness of photonics industry, products and key applications

Personal:



Strong writing & language skills, with the capability of writing customer reports as required, as well as experience of presenting technical data.

Ability to manage varied workload, with strong personal organisation skills

Enthusiasm to develop skill set and welcoming of diverse challenges

Keen to travel and develop relationship with customers of all cultures

Strong communication skills for both internal and external communication

Proven internal and customer facing presentation skills

Strong critical questioning ability in relation to technical issues

Ability to communicate appropriate expectations in relation to product deliverables
