About York Steiner School
York Steiner School is an independent, non-selective school providing Steiner Waldorf education to children aged 3 to 16. We are seeking a capable and creative Marketing, Communications and Alumni Manager to raise awareness of the school, promote Steiner education, and support pupil recruitment and community engagement.
Role Purpose
The purpose of this role is to raise the profile of York Steiner School through strategic marketing and communications, with the ultimate aim of increasing pupil enrolment. The postholder will manage both internal and external communications, lead brand development, and establish strong connections with prospective families, alumni, and the wider community.
They will also take the lead in developing the school's alumni relations programme, supporting events and communications that engage former pupils and families.
The role reports to the School Business Manager and takes additional input from the trustees responsible for marketing and communications.
Key Responsibilities
Marketing & Communications
Develop and deliver a marketing strategy that supports pupil recruitment and enhances the school's public profile
Maintain and update the school's website, social media accounts, newsletters and other communication channels
Create compelling written and visual content in line with the school's ethos and values
Ensure consistent branding and tone of voice across all platforms
Design and produce digital and print materials such as flyers, banners, and prospectuses
Track and report on engagement metrics to inform marketing activity
Promote open days, seasonal festivals, and other key events
Alumni Engagement
Build and maintain an alumni contact database
Develop and deliver regular alumni communications, including newsletters and updates
Organise alumni events and reunions
Encourage alumni involvement in mentoring, storytelling, and promotional efforts
Support alumni-led fundraising campaigns in collaboration with the School Business Manager and trustees
Events Support
Lead or support the planning and promotion of events such as school fairs, festivals, and open days
Attend key events to support delivery and capture promotional content
Coordinate with teaching and administrative staff to ensure event success
Bid Writing
Identify possible sources of funding through available grants and viable organisations
Develop credible and targeted proposals that align with the school's strategic and cultural vision, through collaboration with the School Business Manager
Establish and maintain communication with prospective funders
Person Specification
Essential Experience and Skills
Relevant experience in marketing, communications, public relations or a related field
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Working knowledge of website CMS platforms and social media channels
Ability to create engaging content tailored to different audiences
Experience managing campaigns or promotional events
Confident, collaborative and able to take initiative
Alignment with the ethos and values of Steiner education
Desirable
Experience working in a school or educational environment
Familiarity with alumni engagement and relationship management
Basic design/layout skills (e.g., Canva or similar tools)

Annual Leave:
28 days (inclusive of bank holidays). There will be a 3 month probationary period.
