Job Description



Founded in 1837, the Royal College of Art is the world\xe2\x80\x99s largest community of postgraduate art and design students. It is also the oldest art and design university in continuous operation and has been ranked as the world \xe2\x80\x98s number one art & design university for a remarkable nine consecutive years (QS World Subject Rankings 2015-2022). Applications are invited for a Marketing Designer in Communications and Marketing. Reporting to the Website and Publications Manager, this is a part time (21 hours per week) fixed term contract for 6 months, working at our facility in Kensington/Hybrid. Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Working within RCA\xe2\x80\x99s brand guidelines to design a range of publications and materials to a high standard, for a wide range of different audiences, and to agreed timescales. Examples of this range of work would include:
    • Annual reports and policy documents
    • Student recruitment materials
    • Internal information, either for staff or students
    • Student and staff Welcome Packs and induction materials
    • Event invitations and wayfinding materials
    • Brochures and promotional materials for eg Short Courses
    • Fundraising materials and proposals
  • Adapting creative campaigns produced by external agencies into a range of sizes and formats, and liaising directly with agencies, printers and media buyers to supply the correct format at the correct time
  • Liaising with printers as required to ensure correct and timely printing of materials, and supporting the Publishing Manager
  • Building a working knowledge of RCA\xe2\x80\x99s image assets to select the best images for each publication or design, and choose and package images to send to external suppliers as appropriate
  • Creating a range of assets for the RCA\xe2\x80\x99s social media and digital channels, including sizing images correctly for each channel and simple animations
  • Where appropriate, ensuring proofs are approved by senior academic and administrative staff as necessary
  • Respond to design queries, ideas and questions advising colleagues on best practice
  • Contribute to the development of criteria and process around decision-making for designed deliverables, to ensure our output is strategic, cohesive and deliverable
