Bira is a membership association representing independent retail businesses across the UK. This diverse role leads our membership marketing strategy, driving growth, engagement, and retention across the organisation.



Combining strategic planning with hands-on delivery, you will coordinate a team including two marketing executives, a website manager and pr manager and work closely with senior colleagues to develop and deliver multi-channel campaigns that support membership acquisition, service growth, and engagement.

You will create targeted campaigns that generate qualified leads, support sales and business development, and recruit members directly via the website. Covering marcomms, brand development, digital, CRM, events, and thought leadership, this hands-on role requires credibility, confidence, and a focus on results, ROI, and measurable growth.

Your role as Marketing Manager will have a specific focus on two main areas:



1. Net membership growth through retention and recruitment

2. Increasing member engagement and loyalty through service uptake

Key Responsibilities:



Team Leadership & Management



Lead, mentor, and manage the marketing team, ensuring high standards of performance, development, and collaboration. Champion continuous improvement, innovation, and best practice across all membership marketing activity.

Membership Growth & Engagement



Plan and deliver integrated marketing and communications strategies to drive membership recruitment generating leads for the membership team throughout the year consistently. Develop and implement retention campaigns, including digital magazines, annual awards, and social media campaigns that contribute to a high retention rate. Provide proactive marketing support for member groups to increase engagement and their renewal, ensuring initiatives are well-promoted and measurable outcomes are delivered.

Lead Generation & Sales Support



Plan and manage lead generation activities, including Google Ads, social advertising, exhibitions, and contra marketing arrangements. Monitor and grow online joiners and service enquiries through a targeted content strategy. Support sales growth through lead generation and nurturing across multiple sectors and services.

Service Marketing & Promotion



Oversee new service launches and run promotional campaigns for key services liaising with service partner leads. Work collaboratively with senior leaders, departments and service partners to promote key services and affiliate opportunities.

Communications, Collateral & Brand Management



Manage all membership communications and collateral across digital and print channels, ensuring consistency of brand, tone, and message. Create artwork and design marketing collateral for both small-scale (flyers, magazines, digital imagery) and large-scale (events, exhibitions) initiatives.

Campaign Analysis and Review



Leverage data, CRM insights, and market research to design targeted, effective campaigns and monitor competitor activity. Use Google Analytics, UTM tracking, and data capture forms to measure performance, calculate ROI, and produce comprehensive campaign reports. Ensure all relevant campaign data is accurately recorded and maintained in the CRM to support ongoing analysis and optimisation.

Financial & Compliance Oversight



Ensure all marketing activities meet financial targets, budgets, and regulatory requirements while delivering measurable results.

Person Specification

:

Demonstrable working experience (at least 5 years) in a marketing department or marketing-related field Strong experience of managing and coordinating a team of marketing executives (at least 2 years) Excellent copywriting and communication skills: able to inspire and enthuse others and to vary the tone and use of language for different audiences and purposes Knowledge and experience of digital marketing techniques Accuracy and an eye for detail Good organisational skills with an ability to multi-task, lead on certain areas and meet deadlines Strong analytical skills and data-driven thinking Up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in marketing and measurement Good working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office including Word, Outlook and Excel Excellent project and time management skills; deadline driven To be able to work on multiple project streams, managing conflicting priorities and responsibilities Be able to quickly learn new market sectors, and manage distinctly different brands, audiences at the same time

Pay: 32,000.00-35,000.00 per year
