###
Job overview
Are you an experienced healthcare professional with a passion for maternity care?
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Maternity Theatre and Recovery Practitioner to join our multidisciplinary maternity team at Epsom and St Helier NHS Trust. In this multifaceted role, you will provide critical care in the theatre and recovery areas for women undergoing surgical procedures, as well as offer essential support in the postnatal ward when theatre and recovery workloads are light. This is an excellent opportunity for NMC registered nurses looking for variety, challenge, and the chance to make a meaningful difference in the care of mothers and newborns.
###
Main duties of the job
Maternity Theatre/Recovery Nurses will utilise their theatre skills to lay up theatre trays, assist at elective and emergency caesarean sections and prepare to scrub during an emergency vaginal delivery. Following delivery, they will use their skills to recover the women from either spinal/epidural anaesthesia or general anaesthesia. They will support the smooth running of maternity theatre, working closely with midwifery and obstetric teams. Training midwives how to scrub in an emergency caesarean section will be an additional part of their role.
Summary of duties:
Scrub for emergency and elective caesarean procedures
In the event that there are no elective or emergency procedures, the post holder/s will work on the maternity ward, giving care to postnatal women
Independently complete postnatal checks on postnatal women (Maternity Theatre Nurses are not to palpate the maternal uterus - this is the responsibility of the Midwife)
Complete appropriate BFI training and assist with infant feeding in accordance with BFI and Trust policy
Complete maternal observations and document using recognised MEOWS chart on Badgernet
Escalate any abnormal results
Complete removal of catheters and monitor bladder function
Record removal on catheter care plan and document volume of urine voids
Administer medication in accordance with trust policy
