Job Description

As a Staff Nurse with dual expertise in both scrub and recovery/post-operative care, you will play a pivotal role across the full perioperative pathway, delivering high-quality, patient-centred care from the operating theatre through to recovery.

Working within a state-of-the-art theatre, recovery, and overnight stay facility, you will provide skilled assistance during surgical procedures in the scrub role, ensuring the highest standards of aseptic technique, instrumentation handling, and intraoperative support. Post-operatively, you will transition to delivering expert monitoring and compassionate care as patients emerge from anaesthesia and progress through recovery.

This role is integral to maintaining clinical excellence, patient safety, and operational efficiency across both surgical and recovery settings. You will collaborate closely with consultants, anaesthetists, and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless, continuous care from the moment of patient arrival through to discharge and wound management.

Key Responsibilities



As part of a theatre team, prepare operating theatre and instruments in accordance with surgical lists and aseptic protocols. Assist surgeons during procedures by managing instruments, swabs, and surgical equipment. Ensure correct handling, tracking, and decontamination of surgical instruments and equipment. Provide high-quality, individualised nursing care, ensuring safe patient recovery from sedation or general anaesthetic Monitor and manage patients' post-operative condition, escalating appropriately when required Deliver wound care management and provide clear post-operative advice. Collaborate with surgeons, anaesthetists, to ensure a safe and seamless patient experience Document all clinical activity and patient observations accurately in line with best practice and regulatory standards Communicate effectively with patients and their families, offering reassurance, education, and updates throughout the recovery process. Maintain clinical environments to the highest standards of hygiene and safety

Essential Requirements



Qualifications



RGN Evidence of ongoing professional development.

Experience



2 year post graduate experience. 1 year experience in recovery and/or intensive care. Experience within the NHS & private sector is desirable. Anaesthetic experience is also desirable but not essential. Qualified First Surgical Assistant would be highly desirable.

Knowledge / Skills



Understanding of the post-operative needs of patients and customers. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work under pressure and flexibly as part of a team. Information Technology literacy skills. Recruitment and selection skills Supervisory skills

Job Types: Part-time, Zero hours contract

Pay: Up to 37,000.00 per year
