The Role:

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design and development of two eMotors, collaborating with our strategic eMotor supplier. This role will involve a 9-month focus on two eMotors, with additional support in 2026 for B-Sample re-design activities. The engineer will work under the guidance of the Head of eMotor Design, ensuring robust mechanical system integration, optimal thermal performance, and manufacturability.

Key Responsibilities:

Mechanical Design & Development

Lead mechanical design of Wound Stator assemblies, collaborating with E-Mag engineers to achieve optimal geometry and conductor placement.

Develop Permanent Magnet Rotors, including shaft design, ensuring market-leading performance.

Design Rotor and Stator electrical steel lamination stacks and magnet geometry lamination stacks.

Specify and size bearings to meet speed and duty cycle requirements.

Develop HV insulation systems adhering to creepage and clearance targets.

Perform mechanical design of structural components and conduct structural analysis.

Deliver high-quality 3D CAD and 2D drawings, ensuring compliance with static & dynamic clearance targets.

Negotiate component changes with R&D teams to achieve clearance requirements.

Ensure CAD designs meet Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Serviceability (DFS) standards.

Support eMotor design for manufacturability and assembly, ensuring seamless production.

Collaborate with strategic suppliers to optimize mechanical design of key eMotor components.

Present multiple design solutions, enabling trade-offs between performance, cost, and weight impact.

Work cross-functionally to define eMotor attributes that align with vehicle targets for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Support Thermal Simulation Engineers to refine cooling solutions for eMotors.

Additional responsibilities:

Planning:

Identify technical challenges and assign domain-specific responsibilities.

Develop detailed engineering and supplier milestone plans.

Maintain an integrated eMotor project plan with clear design, test, and release gates.

Identify risks across design, supply chain, and validation, developing mitigation strategies.

Forecast technical changes and adapt resource planning accordingly.

Execution:

Breakdown design tasks (e.g., Rotor & Wound Stator assemblies) into manageable sub-modules using JIRA/Pulse or equivalent PM tools.

Conduct robust Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and present data-backed solutions for design challenges.

Prepare and present technical trade-off options for review meetings.

Lead internal and external technical discussions related to design, thermal, and mechanical engineering.

Own stakeholder management, coordinating inputs across Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality, and Simulation teams.

Track and resolve supplier and internal technical concerns using eCMS.

Identify and mitigate cost/timing risks, leading resolution in technical review forums.

Optimize engineering resource allocation based on project priorities.

Document lessons learned to improve design processes and compliance standards.

Address roadblocks, developing contingency plans to maintain project timelines.

Support business growth by driving process improvements and technical value-addition initiatives.

Key Deliverables:

The

Mechanical Design Engineer

will ensure robust

development, validation, and integration

of eMotors with the following outcomes:

Meet eMotor cost, performance, and weight targets aligned with vehicle specifications.

Develop component designs compliant with functional targets, including torque, efficiency, and thermal behavior.

Validate system and component-level attributes through planned DVPs in company frameworks.

Ensure 3D/2D CAD designs meet requirements for manufacturing, assembly, and serviceability.

Address design concerns and contribute to eMotor system maturity through build phases.

Align validation plans with internal and supplier teams, ensuring timely completion of test activities.

Work with simulation engineers to optimize thermal performance and mechanical engineers for packaging efficiency.

Present findings at gateway reviews and PMT meetings, maintaining proper documentation (CTDs, ERNs, DFMEAs, and B-release records).

Ensure B-release readiness, managing engineering changes (ERNs/MMCs) with cross-functional teams.

Support prototype assembly development and interface mock-ups for early integration validation.

Collaborate with safety and restraint system teams for battery pack and eMotor integration.

Perform DMU checks and maintain quality documentation throughout the design process.

Guide supplier deliverables across the release schedule, ensuring alignment with program gateways.
