to be based at our customers site in Gaydon.



Our Engineering Research and Development department (ER&D) is a fast-growing function within Tata Technologies Limited that is assembled to work on exciting projects globally for multiple customers. It comprises highly specialized engineers across Automotive, Aerospace and Industrial Heavy Machinery.



The Role:



We are seeking a skilled Inverter Mechanical Design Engineer to support the concept and M1 design phases of P4 EDU inverters for a next-generation PHEV platform. This role will focus on the mechanical integration and internal layout of high-voltage inverters, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality designs that meet performance, safety, and manufacturability targets.



Key Responsibilities:



Mechanical Design & Packaging:



Support concept and M1 phase mechanical design for inverters integrated into P4 EDU systems. Define internal inverter layout including placement of components such as busbars, capacitors, and cooling structures. Perform layout and packaging design using Siemens NX and Teamcenter.

Engineering Calculations & First-Principles Design:



Perform 1D calculations to validate current carrying capacity, creepage and clearance distances, and mechanical integrity (e.g., bolted joints, stress/strain). Apply mechanical engineering fundamentals to support robust and manufacturable designs.

Inverter Integration & Cross-Functional Support:



Ensure proper mechanical integration of the inverter into the EDU and vehicle systems. Collaborate with electrical, thermal, and controls teams to meet interface and packaging requirements.

Supplier Interaction & Project Delivery:



Interface with suppliers (as required) to align on mechanical specifications, packaging constraints, and manufacturability. Support program timelines, deliverables, and design milestones.

Design Reviews & Documentation:



Lead and contribute to design reviews throughout the development cycle. Maintain documentation of design assumptions, calculations, and validation plans.

Required Qualifications:



Bachelor's or master's in mechanical engineering or related field. Experienced in mechanical design within power electronics or related automotive systems. Proficient in Siemens NX and Teamcenter for 3D modeling and drawing creation. Strong understanding of mechanical fundamentals and safety standards for high-voltage systems. Demonstrated experience in packaging complex components within tight system constraints. Excellent communication skills and experience in technical reviews.

Preferred (Non-Essential) Qualifications:



Experience with cell-to-busbar welding processes. Exposure to cell thermal management in HV battery or inverter systems. Basic experience with structural/component-level FEA.
