to take ownership of the mechanical design and development of our inspection tools. This role is suited to someone comfortable working across the
full product lifecycle
, from concept and design through prototyping, manufacture, and testing.You will be a key contributor within a small, agile engineering team, with real influence over design decisions, product direction, and technical standards.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the
mechanical design
of in-line inspection tools and sub-assemblies
Produce high-quality
general arrangement and detail drawings
for client approval and manufacture
Generate and manage
bills of materials (BOMs)
and detailed production documentation
Liaise directly with suppliers to source components, obtain quotations, and place orders
Support and participate in
prototype builds and testing
within the workshop and on-site
Design solutions to meet demanding operational requirements (pressure, flow, geometry, environment)
Maintain and improve CAD data management, part numbering, and revision control systems
Collaborate closely with electronics engineers to design housings and integrated assemblies for PCBs and systems
Contribute to new product development, concept generation, testing, and continuous improvement
Support creation of technical visuals, renders, and presentations for clients, exhibitions, and internal use
Skills & Experience
Essential
Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related discipline
Several years' experience in a
mechanical design or product development role
Strong proficiency in
3D CAD
(SolidWorks preferred)
Experience producing
manufacturing-ready drawings and BOMs
Ability to manage multiple design tasks and priorities with minimal supervision
Strong communication skills and confidence working cross-functionally
Highly Desirable
Experience designing
pressure vessels or mechanical systems for harsh or regulated environments
