John Crane has an opening for a Mechanical Engineer to be based in Slough. This is an engineering position, supporting Gas Seals external customers in all technical aspects inclusive of design, manufacture, build and test.

You will field technical enquires relating to fast turnaround projects with varying levels of complexity. Support of our sales network and carry out thorough technical assessments detailing recommendations supporting business plans.

This position will suit an engineer with an excellent mechanical background and a passion for problem solving, a clear communicator and team member. This is an opportunity to join a team of mechanical engineering specialists, supporting John Crane\'s extensive dry gas seal product line.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the following core activities:

  • Managing projects in the support of product evolution and point solutions.
  • Evaluating and considering dry gas seal designs with sympathy to compressor operations.
  • Performing and interpreting calculations, analyses and computations for unknown factors involving well-understood mechanisms.
  • Prepare and present technical presentations to internal & external customers.
  • Writing technical reports for both internal & external customers.
  • Supporting commercial teams in technical meetings with customers to help resolve issues and build relationships.
  • Internal and external co-ordination cross-functionally in line with project requirements.
  • Liaising and working alongside Development Engineering occasionally when developing point solutions.
  • Utilising project planning strategies to ensure stakeholder are apprised of project progress.
  • Utilising FEA analysis software to investigate customer issues.
  • Producing Concept sketches, General Arrangement drawings in CAD both 2D and 3D.
  • Providing detailed technical support to customer queries, field incidents and technical needs of their equipment.
  • Constantly maintaining the company\'s professional image via effective communication.

The Individual

The successful Mechanical Engineer will possess the following skills, experience and attributes:
  • Relevant work experience in a mechanical / reliability engineering role.
  • Experience with: Rotating Equipment, precision engineering, forensic analysis, the oil & gas industry would be an advantage.
  • Previous experience in failure analysis and root cause analysis will prove advantageous.
  • Ability to read P&ID and General Arrangement Drawings. Awareness and general knowledge of controls, control systems and instrumentation.
  • Able to create and work to a plan, delivering on time and to expectations.
  • Can work independently and drive team goals forward.
  • Ability to conduct and lead meetings at various levels competently.
  • Excellent communication skills and commercially aware.
  • Willing to travel globally as required (approx. 2 to 3 per year).
