Navantia UK/Harland & Wolff are launching our first Summer internship. These are 6 week paid placement opportunities for undergraduates to work within the business.
The successful interns will be working on individual developing a baseline knowledge of Kaizen principles or continuous improvements within an operational environment. The project will give them the awareness of the basic engineering standards expected in most places while also practically implementing them within a detailed section of the yard.
Scope of Work
Problem definition - intern to spend several days shadowing key individuals within the department to gain initial experience of the Ship Repair business.
Research - conduct research of the 5S principle and investigate if and how it has been implemented in a similar situation.
Recommendations - complete a report on the benefits of the system and a plan for implementation with resources required
Implementation - lead a small team to put recommendations in place
Monitoring - ensure the process is being followed and note any nonconformities
Final report - summary of findings and future actions
Objective of the internship
By the end of the internship the individual will have a Project file of how they have defined a problem, presented a solution and conducted its implementation.

Ideally 1st or 2nd year undergraduates studying in Mechanical Engineering or similar
