This is a nice opportunity for a Mechanical Test Technician to join a growing design and manufacturing company in the southern Hampshire area. This company recently received major investment and have secured one of their biggest projects to date.
You'll be joining a small team of test professionals and helping to bolster the team with your industry experience. You'll be applying sensors, building tests and test rigs, and performing a wide range of novel and exciting tests, working closely with the rest of the test team. Tests range from coupons as small as a few mm, up to huge full-scale tests. Testing involves loads up to 500 tonnes and burst pressures above 3000 bar. Any experience with high pressure testing would be advantageous, as would a sincere appreciation of health and safety.
Principal Accountabilities
Perform short and long-term mechanical testing operations on composite, polymeric and metallic specimens and assemblies to project plan and timescales.
Operation, maintenance, documentation, and calibration of test equipment including hydraulic equipment, workshop equipment and lifting equipment.
Participate in the development of testing methods, equipment, and instrumentation to facilitate greater understanding of m-pipe's capability and structural performance.
Training other staff within skill level on testing activities.
Contribute to continuous improvement of testing methods and product performance.
Job knowledge & experience:
Education - HNC in Mechanical Engineering, ONC in Mechanical Engineering or applicable work experience in a relevant environment.
Skills - Performing engineering operations and tests, attention to detail.
Experience - Instrumentation, installation of sensors, gauges onto components. Fault finding, testing, calibration and maintaining test equipment, Operating hydraulic pump systems, PC ops with Excel & Word & other test monitoring software.
Interpersonal Skills - energy and enthusiasm for tackling challenges, team player, good communication skills.
Specific areas of interest would be: - composite materials, fatigue, tension and compression testing, material development, strain gauges, instrumentation, thermo-plastic materials, bespoke high load test frames, burst cells, universal compressive and tensile machinery, hydrostatic and hydraulic cyclic systems, pressure transducers, pressure testing, material property testing.
