Media & Pr Manager

Job Description

About Us:

Ripple is an award-winning UK charity dedicated to saving lives by intercepting harmful online searches and providing immediate support, compassion and hope to individuals in crisis.
Through digital tools, awareness campaigns, partnerships, training and advocacy, we work to transform how people are supported in moments of distress and to drive meaningful change across schools, workplaces, government and the wider public.

We are now looking for a skilled Media & Communications Officer to strengthen our voice, grow our impact, and help ensure suicide prevention and online safety remain at the forefront of public conversation.

Role Overview:

We are seeking a proactive, emotionally intelligent and media-savvy PR Officer to lead on press relations, storytelling, and public communications for Ripple.

This role will be central to shaping how the charity is represented nationally and internationally, managing media enquiries, securing positive coverage, preparing senior spokespeople, and ensuring all messaging is safe, accurate and trauma informed.

The ideal candidate will have experience in PR or journalism, excellent communication skills, and a strong understanding of mental-health-sensitive communications.

Key Responsibilities:

Media & PR

Develop and deliver Ripple's PR strategy across international, national, regional and sector outlets. Build and maintain positive relationships with journalists, editors and broadcasters. Proactively pitch news stories, features and comment pieces. Draft press releases, statements, media briefings and Q&As. Handle incoming press queries in a timely and sensitive manner. Prepare the CEO, CTO, and other spokespeople for media interviews. Coordinate content translations and adaptations, when overseas coverage is required.
Content Creation

Write compelling articles, blogs, interviews and reports that communicate Ripple's mission and impact with the press. Collaborate with Ripple clients, partners, donors and users to produce high-quality case studies and impact stories. Develop stories that help engage donors, inspire supporters, and influence decision-makers. Collaborate with design/marketing teams on campaign content, social media messaging and key narratives.
Campaigns & Organisational Messaging

Contribute to high-impact awareness campaigns aligned with Ripple's mission. Ensure all communications follow safe-messaging guidelines for suicide prevention. Maintain a consistent tone of voice across all communications.
Monitoring & Reporting

Track media coverage and sentiment, producing regular insight reports. Monitor emerging trends related to suicide prevention and online safety.
Requirements:

Proven experience in PR, media relations, journalism or communications. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Strong emotional intelligence and the ability to work sensitively with topics relating to suicide, grief and mental health. Experience drafting press releases, statements and media-ready content. Confident pitching to media and securing positive coverage. Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and thrive in a fast-paced environment. A strong understanding of safe suicide-prevention messaging (or willingness to undergo training). Discretion, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to safeguarding. Experience with digital PR platforms (Muck Rack, Roxhill Media, Cision among others) is preferable. Availability to travel within the UK regularly.

Benefits:

Competitive salary dependent on experience. Flexible and remote-friendly working environment. Opportunities for training and professional development in PR, mental health and suicide-prevention practice. The chance to make a life-saving impact through meaningful, purpose-driven work.
