Job summary
The Royal Communications team aims to build public engagement with, and understanding of, the role and relevance of modern Monarchy. By sharing the stories that highlight its public value and impact, the team ensures that the work of Their Majesties The King and Queen, and other Members of The Royal Family, is fairly and fully explained, reported, and understood across the United Kingdom, the Realms, and internationally.
Working across regional, national, and global media, the team collaborates closely with Private Secretaries, internal colleagues, external partners, and journalists to provide communications support and advice so that every visit, engagement, event or message achieves maximum impact.
We are now seeking an exceptional media communications professional to join the team, providing strategic leadership and operational excellence in managing media relations at the highest level.
This is a role that combines strategic leadership with the opportunity to influence how the Monarchy is understood across the UK and worldwide.
Job description
Key Responsibilities:
Working to support the Director of Communications, you will:
- Oversee daily media operations, including statements, briefing materials and both proactive and reactive strategies, ensuring all sectors of the media receive clear narratives, accurate information, and timely assistance.
- Support the delivery and implementation of the Royal Communications strategy, ensuring clear and consistent messaging across Households.
- Manage and develop the team - recruit, mentor, and inspire colleagues, encouraging creativity and professional growth while maintaining high standards of delivery.
- Advise senior stakeholders and spokespeople, providing communications advice, identifying risks, shaping narrative and guiding responses to media issues.
- Identify opportunities and lead the planning, design, and delivery of communications campaigns and special projects that build awareness and appreciation of Their Majesties' work.
- Monitor and evaluate media coverage, audience sentiment, and public opinion to inform messaging and strategy.
- Anticipate and integrate new technologies and media trends to enhance communications effectiveness.
- Maintain strong connections with journalists, editors, and producers across print, broadcast, and digital platforms.
- Provide direct communications support for visits and events, involving travel within the United Kingdom and occasionally overseas, and contribute to a round-the-clock media service through participation in the out-of-hours rota.

About you:
You'll bring proven expertise in media relations and communications, gained in a highly visible and complex organisation, where handling both proactive and reactive issues has a direct impact on long-term reputation and success.
Extensive experience across the full communications landscape, including proactive PR, media relations, and crisis management.
A strategic thinker, capable of aligning communications activity with broader organisational goals and anticipating reputational risks.
With extensive senior media contacts and a deep understanding of how traditional, digital and social media interconnect; able to recognise emerging trends and anticipate how stories will develop across different platforms and audiences.
Confident at senior level, quickly inspiring trust and credibility across diverse audiences and stakeholders.
A collaborative leader, with a track record of coaching, motivating, and developing high-performing teams.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including experience acting as a spokesperson and presenting complex issues with clarity and authority.
Highly organised and resilient under pressure, you thrive in a fast-moving environment, balancing competing priorities, and delivering at pace without compromising accuracy or quality.
A strong relationship-builder, able to influence effectively and maintain networks with counterparts in other organisations, the media and external partners.
You demonstrate discretion, integrity, and sound judgement in handling sensitive information and issues of public interest.
