Seeking a passionate and dedicated Medical Oncology Consultant to join a leading Cancer Services team in Norwich. Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive oncological assessments and develop evidence-based systemic treatment plans for patients with a variety of solid tumours and haematological malignancies.

Collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team, including nurses, clinical oncologists, pathologists, surgeons, palliative care specialists, and allied health professionals, to provide holistic care.

Work closely with patients and their families, incorporating them into care planning while delivering education on chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapies, side effects, and supportive care.

Contribute to clinical leadership by participating in tumour board discussions, reviews, audits, and quality improvement initiatives.

Provide medical oncology expertise during multidisciplinary team meetings, care planning discussions, and risk assessments.

Liaise with external agencies, such as primary care providers, hospices, and charitable organisations, to ensure continuity of care and support patient wellbeing.

Provide supervision and mentorship to junior medical staff, trainees, and other healthcare professionals when necessary.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records in compliance with confidentiality standards and organisational policies.

Participate in an on-call rota, as required, to support service delivery.

Stay abreast of developments in medical oncology, contributing to research, clinical trials, training, and audits where feasible.

Qualifications

MBBS or an equivalent medical degree recognised by the General Medical Council (GMC).

MRCP (UK) or equivalent postgraduate qualification in medicine.

Full GMC registration, with eligibility for inclusion on the Specialist Register (or entry within six months) via the Portfolio Pathway (CESR); full CESR application support is offered.

Substantial experience and training in medical oncology, with expertise in systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT), including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted agents.

Strong knowledge of cancer safeguarding principles, including end-of-life care and adherence to national guidelines (e.g., NICE, ESMO).

Excellent clinical, diagnostic, interpersonal, and risk management skills.

Proven ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team while respecting diverse perspectives and backgrounds.

Demonstrable empathy, compassion, and outstanding communication skills to build relationships with patients and their families.

A commitment to continuous professional development and reflective practice.

Day-to-Day Activities

Perform comprehensive assessments and reassessments of patients, tailoring systemic therapy according to tumour type, molecular profile, stage, and individual needs.

Collaborate with colleagues from various disciplines during tumour boards and case discussions.

Deliver evidence-based systemic treatments, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, hormone therapy, targeted therapy, and supportive care, while managing toxicity and long-term sequelae.

Maintain regular communication with patients, families, and external agencies, providing updates on treatment progress, response monitoring, and survivorship planning.

Ensure accurate documentation of interactions, progress notes, treatment plans, and SACT prescriptions in line with clinical and legal guidelines.

Supervise and mentor junior medical staff, promoting an inclusive and supportive environment for team development.

Participate in peer reviews, clinical trials (as PI or sub-investigator), and training sessions to maintain the highest standards of care.

Pay: 109,000.00-145,000.00 per year
