We are currently seeking an organised, efficient, and compassionate Medical Receptionist / Prescription Clerk to join our dedicated team.
Role Overview
This is a dual role requiring excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a busy primary care setting.
As a Medical Receptionist, you will be the first point of contact for our patients, providing a professional and welcoming front-of-house service.
As a Prescription Clerk, you will support the safe and timely processing of repeat prescriptions and medication requests in line with practice protocols.
Please note: cover may be required for colleagues during annual leave or sickness.
Key ResponsibilitiesReception Duties
Welcome patients and visitors in a friendly, professional manner
Answer telephone calls promptly, manage queries, and direct calls appropriately
Book, amend, and cancel patient appointments using the clinical system
Register new patients and maintain accurate patient records
Process patient forms and documentation, ensuring confidentiality at all times
Coordinate effectively with clinicians and administrative staff
Maintain a clean, organised, and welcoming reception area
Provide general administrative support to the clinical team
Prescription Clerk Duties
Process repeat prescription requests accurately and efficiently
Liaise with GPs, pharmacies, and patients regarding prescription queries
Ensure medication requests comply with practice policies and safety standards
Update patient records and manage prescription-related documentation
Handle sensitive and confidential information in line with data protection regulations
Essential Skills and Experience
Previous experience in a receptionist, administrative, or prescription clerk role (ideally within healthcare)
Strong IT skills; experience with SystmOne is desirable
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work under pressure with a high level of accuracy
Strong organisational and time-management skills
Professional, discreet, and committed to patient confidentiality
Desirable Skills
Knowledge of NHS processes and medical terminology
Experience managing repeat prescriptions
Understanding of data protection and information governance
