MEDICINE COUNTER ASSISTANT



An exciting opportunity to join a forward thinking family run pharmacy group has arisen for our branch based in Weoley Castle, South Birmingham.

Due to a staff retirement and to continue to provide the very best in customer care we have a position for a Medicine Counter Assistant based in our Castle Chemist Branch.

Hours: Between 22.5 and 30 hours per week. Please outline in your application if you have any restrictions to hours worked.

Hours can be negotiated if needed to suit individual and business needs should a suitable candidate be found.

Pharmacy or retail experience is essential.

As first point of contact for our customers, the successful candidate will need to possess a friendly and calm demeanor and be able to deliver the highest level of customer care.



Purpose:



To be the first point of contact for all customers. To serve customers appropriately and sensitively. To provide the best possible advice and refer them to the pharmacist if appropriate. Reports to: Pharmacy Manager

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:



To ensure that the pharmacy environment is welcoming, clean and professional. To greet customers in a professional and friendly manner. To accurately complete financial transactions with customers . To be working towards or have completed an accredited MCA training course under the guidance of the pharmacist. To ensure the shop floor is kept tidy, clean and well stocked with retail/Over the counter medicines using Plano-grames where appropriate. Dealing with Sales representatives to ensure the pharmacy stocks relevant retail lines and promotions. To respond to symptoms described by customers by following agreed protocols and using your own knowledge and judgement. To know and understand the main features of stocked lines and the benefits to customers. To select and recommend suitable products and provide advice on their correct use. To provide advice on leading a healthy lifestyle. To refer to the pharmacist when appropriate. To receive prescriptions from customers and ensure they reach the dispensary in a timely manner. To inform the customer of approximate waiting times and to manage their expectations. To ensure the safe and correct transfer of dispensed items to patients. To identify medicine related problems or queries and bring these to the attention of the pharmacist. To answer queries on the supply and availability of medicines, where it is within your competence. To receive stock in accordance with SOPs. To ensure the safe and appropriate storage of medicines. To assist with stock control and the maintenance of reasonable stock levels within the retail environment. To assist with the engagement of patients onto advanced services. To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of over the counter remedies and minor ailments by reading journals, product information and training resources. To assist in providing pharmaceutical care to patients by carrying out reasonable duties as determined by the pharmacist

Personal specification:



Excellent communication and customer service skills. Excellent team working skills. A warm, friendly and professional attitude towards customers. An ability to respond to medical queries in a sensitive and professional manner. Experience of working in a retail environment. Experience of handling money and maintaining finance records Ability to undergo training on an ongoing basis as well as ability to work to standard operating procedures is crucial. Ability to observe patient confidentiality.
