Job Purpose:
As a Mental Health Support Worker, you will play a crucial role in the day-to-day support of our service users, helping them to achieve their personal goals and live as independently as possible. This role requires a resilient and dedicated individual who can effectively support challenging behaviors and contribute to the creation and maintenance of a safe, supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality, person-centered support to individuals with mental health conditions and challenging behaviors, in line with their care plans.
- Assist service users in the development of personal skills and abilities, focusing on strengths rather than limitations.
- Implement strategies to manage and reduce challenging behaviors in a safe and effective manner, ensuring the well-being of both service users and staff.
- Facilitate and support service users in daily activities, including personal care, meal preparation, housekeeping, and social outings.
- Promote mental health wellness and support service users in accessing community resources, therapy sessions, and medical appointments.
- Actively participate in team meetings, supervision, and ongoing training sessions to enhance your understanding and skills.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of all interactions and incidents, adhering to GDPR and organizational policies.
- Work collaboratively with other team members, families, and external agencies to ensure a coordinated approach to care.
- Remain compliant with CQC regulations and standards, contributing to the overall effectiveness and quality of service.
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
- NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care or equivalent, or willingness to work towards this qualification.
- Proven experience in a similar role, supporting individuals with mental health issues and challenging behaviors.
- Strong understanding of the principles of care and support for individuals with mental health needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with service users and their families.
- Ability to remain calm and resilient in challenging situations, demonstrating patience and empathy.
- Good organizational skills and the ability to work flexibly and collaboratively within a team.
- Knowledge of current CQC regulations and standards, with a commitment to upholding these in all aspects of your work.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience in implementing behavior management plans.
- Additional training or qualifications specific to mental health or behavioral support.
