Mental Health Support Worker

Worthing, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

Turning Tides is a charity that supports people experiencing homelessness in West Sussex. While our central office is in Worthing, our work spans the county - from East Grinstead to Littlehampton and across areas in between. With over 20 accommodation projects, community hubs and outreach teams, we offer local single adults tailored support to move towards a more stable future. We strongly believe in addressing the root causes for homelessness, so our specialist teams support in areas such as mental health, substance misuse, tenancy sustainment, IT skills, employment guidance and much more.

Job Purpose

---------------

This West Sussex County Council funded role offers a unique opportunity to make a transformative difference in the lives of people experiencing homelessness, many of whom face overlapping mental health difficulties, social disadvantage, and barriers to accessing support. As a Mental Health Support Worker with Turning Tides, you will provide compassionate, trauma-informed support that recognises the complex interplay between homelessness and mental wellbeing.

You will help individuals navigate voluntary and statutory mental health services and build sustainable connections with wider support networks. Using a strengths-based approach, you will empower clients to overcome barriers, access opportunities, and take meaningful steps toward stability and recovery.

About the role

------------------

This role is fixed term for 12 months.

Working alongside the Wellbeing Liaison Manager and Counselling Coordinator, you will deliver tailored psycho-educational interventions, including relapse prevention, harm reduction strategies, coping skills, and recovery planning. Through both 1:1 and group support, you will equip people with practical tools and knowledge to improve wellbeing, reduce harm, and make positive, lasting changes in their lives.

Managing a caseload, you will work collaboratively with clients to set and achieve personal goals, while sharing insights and good practice with colleagues to enhance the team's understanding of the intersectional challenges faced by people experiencing homelessness.
