The Maternity and Newborn Safety Investigation Programme is part of a national strategy to improve maternity across the NHS in England.



The Maternity and Newborn Safety Investigation (MNSI) programme, formerly the Healthcare Safety Investigation Branch (HSIB) maternity programme, moved to be hosted by the CQC on the 1 October 2023.



The maternity programme commenced under HSIB in April 2018, following the request from the then Secretary of State for Health and Social Care. The programme is part of the overall national maternity ambition to improve maternity safety and reduce harm by 50% by 2025. The programme was fully rolled out across England by April 2019. In 2022, a commitment was made to continue the programme for a further 5 years, there is currently 2 years of this term remaining.

The Business Development Manager will play a pivotal role in managing the delivery of key programmes of activity and business on behalf of MNSI, offering bespoke support to the programme leadership team. You will develop relevant strategy including research and development to identify, develop and promote best practice whilst undertaking audits to review and test the effectiveness of procedures.


You will support and coordinate the delivery of the MNSI Business Plan and CQC Service level agreement, ensuring all required activity is delivered to plan. Whilst doing all of this, you will act as a role model and support others to instil MNSI values into everything that we do.

What you will bring...




The post holder will be part of the business services team and be the sole employee with this remit. The post holder will be used to fast paced, changing landscape and able to prioritise workloads as well as address the needs of the business. They will be responsible for managing relationships at a senior level, ensuring excellent communication and promoting efficiency and productivity. You must have the ability to demonstrate knowledge of MNSI and links with associated organisations. Proven leadership skills are essential alongside highly developed, engaging, written and verbal communication skills.


Youmust show an understanding of business processes to drive standardisation, consistency and continuous improvement across MNSI. This role allows you to coach and develop colleagues, line manage a team whilst valuing diversity and difference, operating with integrity and openness.
