Hours: Monday to Friday, 07:00 - 17:00 (1-hour lunch)

The Role

We are looking for a skilled and experienced Mobile Plant Fitter to join our engineering team. This is a field-based role attending breakdowns, carrying out routine servicing, and supporting our depots with repairs to a wide variety of plant hire equipment.

You will be the face of Total Hire & Sales on customer sites, so professionalism, technical ability, and a strong work ethic are essential. The ideal candidate will take pride in delivering a first-class service and ensuring our fleet is kept to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities

Attend on-site breakdowns and carry out fast, effective repairs Service, repair, and maintain a wide range of plant machinery (excavators, dumpers, rollers, telehandlers, small tools, etc.) Complete thorough fault-finding across mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems Carry out routine servicing and planned maintenance work Perform pre-delivery inspections (PDIs) as required Provide clear and professional communication to customers while on site Work closely with depot staff to ensure equipment is prepared, maintained, and returned to hire-ready condition Maintain service van stock levels and ensure parts are ordered in a timely manner Ensure all paperwork, digital job sheets, and compliance documents are completed accurately Uphold high standards of health & safety while working both on-site and in depots
Skills & Experience

Proven experience as a plant fitter/plant mechanic within the hire, construction, or plant industry Excellent knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills Ability to work independently on customer sites Excellent communication and customer service skills Full UK driving licence (essential) CSCS card and manufacturer training beneficial but not essential A proactive, organised, and reliable approach to work
