The City College of Acupuncture is seeking an experienced and inspiring Module Leader for our Level 5 Western Medical Science module. This is a key academic role within our Licentiate in Acupuncture programme, supporting students in developing a strong biomedical foundation alongside their training in East Asian medicine.
We are looking for a committed professional with expertise in human physiology and pathology, strong teaching experience, and the ability to deliver high-quality, evidence-based medical science education to adult learners.
About the Role
The Module Leader will be responsible for:
Providing academic leadership for the Level 5 Western Medical Science module
Planning and delivering engaging curriculum content
Designing assessments and ensuring academic standards
Overseeing quality assurance processes
Supporting students' understanding of biomedical concepts relevant to acupuncture practice
This role is ideal for someone passionate about education, integrative healthcare, and helping students bridge Western and Eastern Chinese Medical perspectives.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
Medical Qualification: A recognised qualification in a Western medical science discipline (MBBS, Nursing BSc/MSc, or Biomedical Science/Human Biology/Clinical Science Level 6 or above).
Teaching: A teaching qualification or at least 2 years of substantial teaching experience in Higher Education or professional training.
Curriculum Design: Experience in curriculum planning, academic delivery, and assessment design at Level 5 (or equivalent).
Evidence-Based Practice: Strong understanding of evidence-based medicine and academic referencing.
Skills: Excellent communication and organisational skills.
Eligibility: Eligibility to work in the UK.
Desirable (Not Essential)
MSc or higher degree in a medical or life science discipline.
Experience in teaching Western medical sciences within acupuncture or integrative medicine programmes.
Experience in module coordination or academic leadership.
Knowledge or practice in holistic or complementary medicine.
Familiarity with digital learning platforms (e.g., Moodle, SharePoint, Teams).
Ability to teach complex concepts using diagrams, visuals, or interactive tools.

Additional Responsibilities
In addition to teaching, the Module Leader is expected to inspire, consult, encourage, problem-solve, advise, team-build, and support the module teaching team.
1. Wider Curriculum Contribution
Develop a long-term vision for the module's development within CCA.
Encourage team engagement and curriculum integration through regular meetings.
Annually update the Module Learning Guide (MLG) and course notes.
Attend faculty meetings (Curriculum Review, Exam Board, and Teaching Group meetings).
2. Academic Tutoring & Pastoral Care
Develop and share a tutorial schedule and conduct documented academic tutorials.
Ensure structured, high-level support is provided to students.
Conduct personal tutorials as required (a minimum of 2 per annum).
Review and address issues raised in personal tutorial reports.
3. Professional Development & Promotion
Set high standards, follow a personal development plan, and lead by example.
Fully engage with the curriculum and embody the College's ethos and standards.
Act as a positive ambassador for the College in external settings.
