Job Description

The Village Montessori Nursery is a small STAR-accredited setting, rated Good by Ofsted, based in the village of Theydon Bois. We are seeking an enthusiastic, qualified Early Years practitioner, preferably Montessori-trained, otherwise Level 3, to join our friendly team of professional practitioners. Candidate will work with children aged from approximately 2:4 to 5 years. Newly qualified practitioners would be considered.

Candidate should hold a relevant Early Years qualification (ideally Montessori Diploma); be a good team worker; be eligible to work in the UK; be in good health; have a good command of spoken and written English and have a minimum grade of C in English 'O' Level or GCSE; be sensitive to the children's needs and liaise tactfully and diplomatically with parents; demonstrate a good knowledge of health and safety to ensure the well-being of children and staff; demonstrate a caring and sympathetic nature; be confident using the Montessori materials; understand the Montessori philosophy; be flexible to provide cover on Mon or Wed mornings if a team member is absent due to training or sickness.

Hours: 9:30 am to 3:30 pm (negotiable) on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The nursery is open for 39 weeks from Sep 2025 to July 2026 and follows school term-times, with a few exceptions. There may be scope to work an additional day or two in the future.

Duties will include, amongst others: working with a small group of children each day; preparing weekly planning with reference to the EYFS; record-keeping for key children; daily observations/note taking; minute-taking at meetings if required; working with parents and outside agencies alongside Manager; attending training as and when required (eg. First Aid, Safeguarding); preparing the indoor and outdoor environment and tidying away at the end of the session. (NB: there is some lifting of equipment from time to time). Successful candidate will also be invited to attend Conferences and Seminars as part of his/her CPD.

Salary and hours negotiable. Paid overtime. Training is provided; holiday entitlement will be pro rata. There is an option to join a Pension Scheme.

The successful candidate will be subject to a DBS check and will be asked to provide 3 references as part of our Safeguarding and Recruitment procedures.
