Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Montessori Nursery Directress to lead and guide an early years environment with professionalism, compassion, and a strong commitment to Montessori pedagogy. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent leadership and organisational skills, a passion for nurturing children's development, and the ability to maintain outstanding standards of care and education. You will play a central role in supporting children's learning, leading your team, and fostering collaborative relationships with families.
Key Responsibilities
Montessori Practice & Child Development
Present Montessori materials and guide children through purposeful, independent learning
Plan, organise, and deliver age-appropriate Montessori activities tailored to individual needs
Observe children regularly to inform planning and developmental records
Create calm, purposeful, and beautifully prepared learning environments
Support children's emotional, social, and cognitive growth through respectful, child-led practice
Nurture independence, confidence, concentration, and positive behaviour
Leadership & Nursery Management
Lead and supervise staff, offering guidance, mentoring, and professional support
Ensure high standards of safeguarding, health, and safety at all times
Maintain a safe, clean, and well-organised environment in line with regulations
Ensure compliance with all relevant early years and Montessori standards
Manage administrative tasks including attendance records, planning, and resource organisation
Communication & Community
Build strong, professional relationships with children and families
Communicate clearly with parents regarding children's progress, behaviour, and milestones
Work collaboratively with colleagues and external agencies to maintain a positive community atmosphere
Participate in ongoing professional development and contribute to whole-nursery improvement
Requirements
We are looking for reliable, motivated, and professionally qualified individuals who can uphold the highest Montessori and early years standards.
Essential:
AMI 0-3 or AMI 3-6 Montessori qualification
Proven experience in early childhood education or nursery roles
Strong understanding of authentic Montessori pedagogy
Excellent leadership, communication, and teamwork skills
Calm, patient, respectful, and child-centred approach
Childcare qualifications recognised in the UK (e.g., Level 3 Diploma or equivalent)
Experience with nursery administration and daily operations
Desirable:
Management or room-leader experience in a Montessori or nursery setting
Valid driving licence for operational flexibility
