Eden Project Morecambe is seeking a highly motivated and resourceful project engagement and communications manager to build and sustain strong relationships with local residents, community groups, public bodies, voluntary organisations and businesses. You will play a key role in monitoring and evaluation social value and community outcomes through a broad range of workshops, drop-in sessions, open days and public meetings ensuring meaningful two-way dialogue.

The role is pivotal in embedding Eden's values into the project and working with the design, contracting and stakeholder teams to translate technical content into clear, credible messaging supported by the marketing team to excitement and project awareness. Reporting to the Eden Project Director, this is a truly unique opportunity to shape a world-class destination that leaves a legacy for Morecambe and the Eden Project.

Role Purpose

Eden Project Morecambe will be a destination that combines indoor and outdoor experiences, connecting people with internationally significant natural environment of Morecambe bay whilst also enhancing well being.

The project has far-reaching environmental, social and economic ambitions, but above all it will be a day out that inspires a sense of wonder and connection with the natural world.

We have receieved government funding to allow us to move through the development stages and are seeking a project engagement and communications manager to work with partners, stakeholders and the wider public to build support, enthusiasm and networks of collaboration throughout the design and construction period and beyond opening day.



Key Accountabilities

Engage with stakeholders; schools, colleges, universities, other institutions, local businesses, community groups and individuals - creating relationships with them and building strong support and buy-in within the town and wider bay area and fostering links to public and private sector bodies and identifying opportunities to work together. Act as a representative of the Eden Project at local events and meetings. Convening and influencing; bringing people and organisations together to spark ideas and debate, sharing Eden Project's mission and vision and developing an active community conversation that can help shape and inform the creation of the Eden Project new site in Morecambe. Work closely with and support the Marketing team and local marketing partners to help build excitement and momentum with the project and raise awareness of the project and value it will bring. Supporting on Morecambe specific marketing communications and content including website, social channels, E-Comms where required. Work with the PR team to help build and maintain relationships with local media supporting as required for briefing notes, interviews and events including community conversations. Act as a conduit between the Eden Cornwall, Eden Communities and The Bay team. Work with the Eden project team to develop and support bids and to contribute to fundraising. Utilising their local knowledge, the role holder will help to work with funders, from government agencies to private charities and philanthropists to support the meanwhile programmes in the lead up to the capital build. Initiate and develop projects connected to Eden Project Morecambe. These may be creative, nature based, health-focussed, educational or technical - working to develop productive partnerships with individuals and organisations locally and nationally. Design and run appropriate engagement events and activities, ensure where relevant statutory obligations are being met.

Demands of the Role

Education and Qualifications Qualified to degree level (or equivalent) in a relevant field.

Knowledge and Skills

The jobholder will have gained a minimum of five years' experience, in a similar role, where they will have managed delivery of an engagement programme for a large-scale development. Experience of working on community engagement and partnerships desirable. A strategic thinker with strong relationship management abilities and experience of successful partnership development within the North West. An accomplished practitioner with a thorough knowledge of the specific challenges affecting local communities and an understanding of the political, cultural and societal issues affecting the region is essential.



Decision Making

Prioritizes and organizes own workload, working autonomously on specific projects and areas of specialism, liaising internally and externally as required. Works collaboratively across a number of departments to maximize engagement opportunities for Eden as a whole. Decisions will mostly be routine in nature, working to short and medium-term objectives, within levels of skills and knowledge and decisions impacting the organization will be referred to the Head of Department.



Resourcefulness

Creative and adaptive thinking is required when formulating, developing and delivering experiences for a wide range of audiences. Reactive problem solving is a regular feature of the role where the role holder will be adept at adjusting communication and programmes in line with stakeholder needs or challenges that arise. The post holder must be able to identify opportunities to develop new opportunities and partnerships and collaborate with a range of stakeholders. Some areas will be routine and standard decisions based on existing practices.



People and Asset Management

Accountable for the delivery of approved activity within budget. Responsible for managing small amounts of petty cash and for the security and care of sensitive personal data through case study management. May supervise volunteers or interns though so current direct line management required.



Communication and Visitor Experience

A programme ambassador and often first point of contact in the locality, the post holder is an accomplished communicator who will use a variety of channels. There is a regular need to present, interpret and assess information and adapt the approach, content and voice to suit all types of audience: ranging from senior staff at devolved government to considerate handling of individuals in local communities whilst liaising with external media and journalists. Exceptional written, communications and research skills required and a creative approach with the ability to work consultatively both with internal and external teams. An understanding of Eden's mission is key in making sure that communications reflect the core philosophy at all times.



Operational Environment

A significant amount of flexible working including evening and weekend work, based at Morecambe Town Hall or another local site in Morecambe Bay. The role will include occasional long-distance travel and overnight stays across the UK. Occasional trips to the home base of Eden Project Cornwall will be incorporated.
