Job Description

University Biomedical Services (UBS) are looking for a Named Information Coordinator in its central support team. You will assist with information management and dissemination, for biomedical research within UBS and across the University. Working as part of a busy licencing and administration team, you will proactively gather, collate and present up-to-date information, from multiple sources relevant to biomedical research, including legislation and regulations, the implementation of the 3Rs, and other guiding principles for biomedical research. This will require establishment and management of information systems and databases, to enable access to, and dissemination of, necessary information to UBS and research staff, ensuring those dealing with animals in the University have access to information they need about the species held there and procedures being performed.


You will also support the UBS Training Centre with development and delivery of teaching materials for both Institute of Animal Technology (IAT) and Personal Individual Licence (PIL) courses, exam invigilation and marking of assignments. As a Named Information Officer (NIO), under the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 (ASPA), you will be expected to attend and actively contribute to University Animal Welfare Ethical Review Body (AWERB) committees, and other associated meetings, preparing information and reports for circulation. As NIO you will provide important contributions to ensuring the highest standard of animal welfare and good science are achieved within the University.


You will be educated to A Level, or equivalent, with additional desirable qualifications IAT 2 and/or 3 and a Qualification In Education And Training. You will be able to communicate with a wide range of individuals, and have the ability to effectively disseminate detailed information accurately to specific audiences. You will have experience operating in a similar information management role, using a wide range of tools and methods, including computers literacy, and be able to organise your own workload to make decisions and meet tight deadlines.


We are looking for an individual who has a full understanding of the main provisions of ASPA and the 3Rs. Further knowledge of AWERB and the types of research performed within the University establishment would also be an advantage.
