Based in Bristol, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Power and Propulsion Engineer to join our team and play a key role in delivering high-quality naval architecture solutions for naval and complex commercial shipbuilding projects.
As a Naval Architect at Navantia UK, you will contribute to the development and analysis of ship designs. You'll work across a variety of naval projects, helping to ensure our designs meet safety, performance, and regulatory requirements. This is an ideal role for someone early in their career who is eager to learn, grow, and develop expertise in naval architecture.
You'll have the opportunity to work alongside multi-disciplinary teams and receive mentoring from experienced professionals, building the foundation for a rewarding career in the maritime sector.
Key Responsibilities
Support the naval architecture team in producing next generation naval and complex ship designs.
Undertake modelling and analysis of hullforms, stability assessments, weight estimations,.
Contribute to the evaluation of hull form performance, including resistance and propulsion, seakeeping, and manoeuvrability using in-house tools and advanced software tools.
Perform structural design analysis.
Compile design documentation, technical reports, and drawings.
Carry out design calculations and support in the use of analysis tools and software.
Participate in reviews, meetings, and design discussions with other engineering teams.
Ensuring designs comply with regulatory and classification society standards.
Support the planning and execution of model testing or sea trials where appropriate.
Actively engage in learning from experienced team members and take part in training and development opportunities.
Qualifications
A degree in Naval Architecture or a closely related discipline (Masters preferred).
1-5 years of experience in naval architecture or marine designs.
Familiarity with naval architectural principles and design tools.
An interest in ship design and a desire to develop a deep understanding of naval architecture.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Good written and verbal communication abilities.
A collaborative mindset and willingness to learn from others.
