To provide essential clinical support within the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) and Transitional Care (TC).

Ensuring a clean, well-organized, and welcoming environment for infants, parents, and staff.

This role focuses on administrative, housekeeping, and family support duties and direct patient care, as supervised by a registered nurse.

The post holder will play a key role in the special care baby unit team to provide a quality family-centred and supportive environment where parents/carers are encouraged in the care of their babies.

This role is vital in ensuring the smooth running of the Special Care Baby Unit and Neonatal Transitional Care services while offering essential support to staff and families.

Please note this role is a shift worker position, as such, you would be expected to work nights, weekends, and bank holidays. We aim to recruit staff for a start date as soon as possible. However, this date could be flexible for the right candidate.

Main duties of the job




The post holder will support the staff in the Special Care Baby Unit in ensuring a smooth, clean and well-organised environment that is welcoming and inclusive for the infants, parents and staff. This should also ensure that it is in line with Health and Safety, Infection Control, and Fire Safety policies. Support the neonatal team clinically as needed.

Previous experience in this role is preferred but you will be provided with clinical training to learn the role and will have daily supervision by trained staff to perform safely, confidently and competently the clinical skills required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities




Our Neonatal Healthcare Support Workers will be expected to:


Ensure all department areas are clean and tidy in line with
Health & Safety, Infection Control and Fire Safety policies.
Keep a comprehensive system for stock control, to ensure
appropriate levels are maintained but not exceeded.
Liaise with the nurse in charge each shift and prioritise duties
accordingly.
Daily/monthly housekeeping and setting up of medical equipment. Ensure Trust mandatory training is kept up to date. Undertake any further training to master new skills and
maintain the essential requirements of the role.
Support the clinical team when required while remaining
within own scope of practice. This includes assisting with procedures, supporting Infant feeding and breastfeeding, heel prick blood sampling, taking of baby observations, feeds and cares of a newborn.
Support the service and family with Family-Integrated Care, Bliss and Baby-Friendly Initiatives. Support the staff with reception duties in the absence of the
Ward Clerk.
Ensures confidentiality in all aspects of the role. Contributes to the security of the unit. Identifies with the manager, areas requiring further skills and
training to meet the needs of the service.
