We are seeking a highly skilled Network Security Engineer to join our dynamic IT team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining secure network infrastructure to safeguard organisational data and systems. Duties
Design, deploy, and manage secure network architectures including LAN, WAN, VPNs, and cloud-based environments such as Azure and AWS.
Configure and maintain firewalls (e.g., Cisco ASA), IDS/IPS systems, and VPN solutions to protect organisational assets.
Support network infrastructure including Cisco routers, Juniper devices, SDLC processes, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP), and MPLS networks.
Implement encryption standards such as IPsec and SSL/TLS for secure communications.
Monitor network traffic using tools like SolarWinds, PRTG, and Splunk to identify potential threats or anomalies.
Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and penetration testing to identify security gaps.
Manage user authentication systems including LDAP, Active Directory, SSO solutions, PKI certificates, and RADIUS servers.
Administer virtualisation platforms such as VMware vSphere and utilise scripting languages like PowerShell and Bash for automation tasks.
Oversee system administration tasks across various operating systems including Windows Server, Linux distributions (Debian, CentOS, Ubuntu), Solaris, and macOS.
Collaborate with DevOps teams to integrate security into CI/CD pipelines using tools like Ansible and utilise network management software such as SolarWinds or PRTG for proactive monitoring.
Ensure compliance with ITIL standards and maintain documentation related to network architecture and security policies.
Skills
Proven experience in network security engineering with a strong understanding of TCP/IP protocols, DNS, DHCP, NFS, SFTP, FTP protocols.
Extensive knowledge of firewall configuration (Cisco ASA), VPN technologies (IPsec), routing protocols (BGP, EIGRP), load balancing solutions, high availability architectures and SAN storage management.
Familiarity with cloud services including Azure and AWS; experience with virtualization platforms such as VMware vSphere is advantageous.
Proficiency in scripting languages like Python, Shell Scripting (Bash), PowerShell for automation purposes.
Strong grasp of network monitoring tools (SolarWinds, PRTG) and SIEM solutions such as Splunk for threat detection.
Knowledge of encryption standards (SSL/TLS), network protocols (TCP/UDP), IDS/IPS systems; understanding of telecommunication systems including VoIP is desirable.
Ability to support complex network architectures involving MPLS networks or SD-WAN solutions; experience with network installation projects is preferred.
Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to analyse complex security issues swiftly; strong organisational skills in managing multiple projects simultaneously.
