About the Role



We are looking for a highly capable

Network Security Engineer

to strengthen and manage our organisation's network and security infrastructure. This role involves designing secure architectures, maintaining highly available systems, and ensuring our network environment remains resilient against evolving cyber threats. You will work alongside a team, contributing technical leadership and ensuring our systems, services, and processes meet security and performance standards.

What You Will Do



Design, build, and maintain secure network infrastructures including

VLANs, VPNs, TCP/IP

, routing and switching platforms, and secure gateway technologies.

Configure, optimise, and maintain enterprise firewalls (such as

Cisco Firepower

), ensuring robust rule sets, segmentation, and alignment with

Zero Trust

principles.

Conduct OS-level hardening for both Linux and Windows platforms to reduce vulnerabilities and ensure alignment with internal and external security standards.

Enhance the security posture of virtualisation platforms such as

VMware ESXi

and

Hyper-V

, applying secure configuration and continuous monitoring.

Implement strong access controls for applications and databases, ensuring sensitive data is protected against internal and external threats.

Support and secure cloud environments (AWS/Azure), focusing on VPC configurations, IAM policies, encrypted communications, logging, and continuous monitoring.

Deploy, maintain, and tune threat detection and monitoring tools such as Wazuh, PRTG, Grafana, Icinga, Graylog, and similar SIEM/NIDS platforms.

Utilize penetration testing and security assessment tools (

Wireshark, Nmap, Nessus, OpenVAS

, etc.) to identify weaknesses, validate configurations, and strengthen security controls.

Create and maintain documentation including threat models, network diagrams, operational runbooks, test plans, and procedures for ongoing improvements and operational readiness.

Perform regular updates, patching, firmware upgrades, and system improvements across network and security devices.

Troubleshoot complex network, performance, and security-related incidents, acting as an escalation point during major outages and working closely with incident management teams.

Implement planned changes across managed systems with effective change control and minimal disruption to users and services.

Daily Responsibilities



Work closely with the team to deliver secure, reliable, and scalable network solutions.

Oversee day-to-day operations of network and security systems, ensuring stable and protected environments.

Investigate and resolve connectivity or security-related issues quickly and effectively.

Apply planned change and configuration updates across network/security devices.

Act as a key member during major incident investigations, leading deep-dive troubleshooting and remediation.

Participate in audit reviews, risk assessments, and ongoing controls monitoring.

Key Skills & Experience



Strong understanding of networking fundamentals:

Routing, Switching, DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, NAT, SSL/TLS, VPNs, DNSSEC

, and network segmentation.

Hands-on experience with enterprise firewalls, routers, and switches (e.g.,

Cisco Firepower / ASA

).

Proficiency with cloud networking concepts including

AWS VPCs

, IAM best practices, load balancers, CloudWatch, and encryption standards.

Experience managing and securing Windows Server and Linux environments, including hardening and patching.

Strong exposure to

VMware ESXi

, Hyper-V, virtual networking, and secure configuration processes.

Skilled with monitoring, logging, and SIEM tools such as

Wazuh, Graylog, Syslog, PRTG, Grafana, Icinga

.

Familiarity with penetration testing and vulnerability assessment tools (

Wireshark, Nmap, Nessus, OpenVAS,

etc.).

Ability to automate tasks using

Bash, Python, or PowerShell

.

Analytical thinker able to work effectively in high-pressure environments, especially during incidents.

Education & Certification



Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline.

Preferred / Desirable Certifications:

o ?CompTIA CySA+/Security+

o ?CCNA

o RHCSA

o AWS/Azure/GCP (Advantage)

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: 33,000.00-36,000.00 per year
