This new role is dedicated to providing bespoke, internal support to one specific neurodivergent staff member at St Giles. The goal is to ensure this employee has equitable access to opportunities and is fully supported to thrive in their job, reflecting St Giles' commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. The Support Worker will act as a key point of contact, providing specialist advice, advocacy, and practical assistance.
The Role
As a Neurodiversity Support Worker, you will play a crucial role in supporting a staff member with a diagnosis of Autism and ADHD. You will work one-on-one with the staff member to understand their individual needs, strengths, and challenges, creating a tailored support plan.
You will assist with a range of duties, including, but not limited to:
Deconstructing complex information: Helping the staff member process and understand complex documents, policies, or project briefs and completing research tasks as required.
Administrative & organisational tasks: Providing hands-on support with workload management, scheduling, and digital organisation alongside writing up notes.
Internal advocacy: Acting as a liaison and advocate with colleagues and internal departments such as HR, IT, and Finance to ensure appropriate adjustments and inclusive practices are implemented and all policies and procedures are followed, particular in respect to equity, diversity and inclusion.
External liaison: Connecting the staff member to appropriate external support avenues and resources.
You will also be responsible for maintaining accurate records, ensuring all work is done in strict accordance with St Giles' policies and relevant data protection legislation. A strong commitment to confidentiality and a person-centred approach is essential. Where the staff member is absent from work due to illness, holiday, etc., you will be encouraged to use your own leave time or be assigned other duties commensurate with your role.

Direct Work with Staff:
Provide one-to-one, person-centred holistic support to the staff member.
Help the staff member process and deconstruct complex information.
Assist with administrative, organisational, and time management tasks.
Working with Others:
Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal departments, including HR, IT, and Finance in order to support the staff member within the wider workplace.
Act as an advocate for the staff member, ensuring reasonable adjustments are considered and implemented and that all policies and procedures are appropriately followed, championing the needs of the staff member where it is felt this is not the case.
Liaise with and signpost appropriate external support services and community resources.
Collaborate with the wider team to share best practice and support an integrated approach to staff wellbeing and excellence in equity, diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
Compliance:
Act in strict accordance with GDPR and St Giles' policies and procedures (including data protection, confidentiality, and lone working).
Follow all workplace safety guidance and maintain professional boundaries.
Training and Development:
Attending and positively engaging with all mandatory training.
Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing learning and personal development through relevant additional training.
Undertake any other duties as required, commensurate with the post level, working flexibly to meet service and wider St Giles Trust demands.

Experience and Knowledge
Direct Support: Proven experience working with neurodiverse adults, delivering effective support that has resulted in positive outcomes.
Specialism Specific: Strong awareness and understanding of the demands of issues arising from ADHD/Autism in the workplace
Advocacy: Demonstrable experience advocating with internal or external stakeholders on behalf of people with neurodiversity.
Specialism: Awareness of the challenges faced by neurodiverse people in a professional environment, how to address these challenges and how to connect to wider networks of support.
Networks: Working knowledge of support networks and navigation of NHS services around neurodiversity/mental health and Access to Work scheme (or keen willingness to research the same)
Good Practice: Knowledge of anti-discriminatory working practices, and the implications of both within the working environment

Skills and Abilities
Sector Expertise: Strong understanding of neurodiversity, including Autism and ADHD, and associated barriers to engagement and wellbeing.
Relationship Building: Exceptional ability to build and maintain trusting relationships with staff members, particularly those who may have had previous negative experiences with services.
IT Proficiency: Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word) and neurodiversity supportive software (e.g., text to speech/speech to text platforms).
Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of communicating effectively with a wide range of internal stakeholders
Autonomy & Prioritisation: Ability to proactively manage and prioritise your own workload with minimal supervision.

Qualifications
Relevant Qualification: A relevant qualification in neurodiverse support services, or another related field, OR demonstrable equivalent professional experience.
Accredited Training: Completion of relevant accredited training (e.g., safeguarding, counselling, mental health first aid, ADHD/Autism, etc).
