To be a critical member of the wider Senior Care Team and ensure the smooth running of the Residential Home during the night. Leading and managing the night shift and supervising the general well-being of Residents and staff members throughout that time; ensuring that all expected duties are performed in a timely and effective manner.
Reporting to:
Regularly to Deputy Manager and Team Leaders at daily handovers and as necessary to Senior Management
Roles & Responsibilities:
To take the lead of the night shift, confidently guiding the team to ensure that residents care, personal and wellbeing needs are met. To be responsible for the overall night shift, ensuring that all clients have a good rest and that staff perform the night routine in a safe, level-headed and organised manner and understand the importance of checks and accountability. To be forward-thinking and consult with the Team Leader, Home or General Manager if there are any situations which needs further decision making.
Hours
:
12 hours night shift Monday to Sunday on a rota basis.
Two weekends off every other week, within 4 weeks (enhanced weekend pay)
Three shifts a week in set pattern for work/life balance & planning
5.6 weeks statutory leave entitlement.
Key Attributes Required:
To make autonomous decisions in emergency situations or when a client is unwell and needs support
To administer medication to the residents within the Home, which may include the ordering, booking and returning of medication.
To record efficiently and effectively all care and support on Blyssful digital system
To liaise with clients, their families, advocates, medical professionals and representatives when needed
To assist the Deputy Manager in ensuring Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans are in place and reviewed, when needed, for all clients.
To review care plans and risk assessments for all residents, escalating any significant changes or concerns to the Deputy Manager.
Keeping up to date and accurate all digital care record as well as overseeing entries made by the night staff team.
Ensure all required charts, forms and paperwork are completed by the end of the shift, before handover.
Ensure accident and incident forms of clients are completed accurately by night staff team when necessary.
To report any errors, concerns or allegations of abuse to Senior Care Team or Home Manager.
Staff supervisions and spot checks of carers, dealing with any poor performance or misconduct, escalating any issues or concerns to the Senior Care Team.
Lead by example and promote teamwork, effective communication and a proactive and positive working environment as well as encouraging night staff carers to take the initiative in solving problems.
Delegate appropriate tasks to carers and ensure that they are completed according to the requirements and regulations but be ready to support the team as well.
Promote learning and development within the team
Training
To embark on a programme of Continuous Professional Development and to promote learning and development for all care staff
To attend mandatory training days/courses online or off site, as and when required for personal, professional and business development.
Training needs will be identified to improve, develop and learn new skills and competencies in order to fulfil the requirements of the role
General
To respect and promote confidentiality at all times, and to ensure all clients are treated with dignity and respect by all staff.
To undertake any other duties as required by the Senior Care Team to keep the Home running smoothly.
To help promote residents personal and physical independence and choice
To participate in the basic care of the residents, e.g. washing, dressing, bathing, pressure area care, mouth care, hearing aid care, eye care etc. when needed
To assist the residents with their toileting needs, including continence promotion when needed
To help in the serving of meals and drinks, assisting those residents who are unable to feed themselves and ensuring that each resident receives the meal or diet that he/she has requested and is suitable for his/her needs when applicable.
To help the team with the ironing tasks that are required to support laundry management.
Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications
QCF Level 3 in Health & Social Care ideally but we will consider Level 2 alongside extensive care home experience
Must illustrate a genuine interest in working with vulnerable people.
Superior communication skills.
Must speak and write good English
Strong ability to instruct and support care staff using own initiative.
Excellent problem solving and organisational skills.
DBS check and clearance.
