Now, we're looking for a Night Operations Technician (Agronomy Support) to join us and help drive this mission forward.
Your Role
We're looking for a Night Operations Technician (Agronomy Support) to ensure the smooth running of our agronomic systems overnight. This role is essential to maintaining uninterrupted growing operations by keeping irrigation and nutrient systems clean, responding swiftly to chamber alarms, and supporting the overall stability of the growing environment.

This role will be based at Pepperness, our Vertical Farm, in Sandwich, Kent.
Hours of work
:This role is 40 hours per week Tuesday to Saturday OR Wednesday to Sunday 10pm to 6am.
Who you'll be working with
You'll be working alongside the Night Engineer and liaising with the Agronomy Team to ensure system continuity between shifts. Together, you'll safeguard growing conditions, troubleshoot technical alarms, and carry out key operational checks to support the farm's performance.

What you'll be doing
Operations & System Maintenance (40%)
Clean and maintain irrigation filters at least twice per night (more frequently as required).
Mix fertilisers and replace acid barrels as scheduled or requested by the agronomy team.
Conduct system checks on the control software for irrigation and climate to ensure it is operating optimally
Monitoring & Response (30%)
Monitor the Building Management System (BMS) throughout the night, identifying and addressing alerts or deviations.
Manage the duty phone and respond promptly to chamber alarms, escalating to the night engineer or day teams as needed.
Collaboration & Handover (20%)
Record all night-time activities, including filter cleans, system events, and any interventions.
Provide clear and accurate handover notes to the day shift teams, ensuring continuity and traceability.
Health, Safety & Continuous Improvement (10%)
Follow and enforce safety procedures when handling fertilisers and acids.
Identify opportunities to improve system efficiency or reliability and share ideas with the engineering and agronomy leads.

What skills you should have
We're looking for someone who is deep rooted, passionate about people, the planet, and (of course) leafy greens, someone who thrives in a collaborative and purpose driven environment.
Must have skills:
Experience in horticultural, agricultural, or technical facility operations (e.g., water systems, BMS monitoring, climate monitoring systems).
Strong sense of responsibility and ability to work independently at night.
Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining cleanliness and system integrity.
Nice to have skills:
Basic understanding of nutrient systems, irrigation processes, or controlled environment agriculture.
Experience handling fertilisers, acids, or chemicals safely in an operational context.
What success looks like in this role
3 months in - You've rooted yourself in our operations, mastered night procedures, and built strong communication channels with the agronomy and engineering teams.
6 months in - You're confidently managing overnight responsibilities, preventing downtime, and ensuring clean, consistent irrigation system performance.
12 months in - You've become the cornerstone of night operations, known for reliability, quick response to issues, and contributions to improved system performance.
