About us

The Research Department of Primary Care and Population Health (PCPH) is a multidisciplinary academic primary care teaching and research centre, working collaboratively to improve the health of individuals and populations. We research the entire life cycle of complex interventions, starting with understanding health problems from patients' perspectives, and using a range of research approaches to develop, evaluate and implement interventions.
We are part of the UCL Institute of Epidemiology & Healthcare (IEHC) and the NIHR School for Primary Care Research, and have strong links to both the NIHR Schools of Public Health and Social Care with extensive opportunities for collaboration/funding/training and access to local and national primary care networks and datasets. The Primary Care Education Group within PCPH is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for teaching and research in primary care clinical education.
About the role
This NIHR funded post provides up to four years' post-doctoral training for a general practitioner who can demonstrate outstanding potential to develop their career as an independent researcher, educator and leader in the field of clinical education research. They will be required to develop a coherent programme of clinical education research an area relating to primary health care
Appointment Details:

  • Salary will be at CL8.12 (82,701) with an additional Market Supplement (17,383), Total 100,084 plus 4,678 London Allowance (pro-rata per annum).
  • This is a fixed-term contract with 4-years external funding in the first instance.
  • Appointment is dependent on award and confirmation of a PhD (or equivalent).

About you
Candidates must be registered medical practitioners who have completed GP vocational training, obtained the MRCGP or equivalent and are eligible for the NHS GP Performers List.
Candidates must have submitted their PhD/MD thesis at the time of application and must have been fully awarded by the deadline for taking up post which is 1/9/2026.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate outstanding potential to develop their career as an independent researcher, educator and leader in the field of clinical education research.
Candidates who have already completed one NIHR Clinical Lectureship may not apply for another.
